There comes
a single moment in many people’s lives that defines who
they have been and who they are destined to become. For
some people it comes at the most unexpected of times. For
our next guest, Jerry Glover it came at a moment that was
one of the lowest in his life. His book “Play to Win” uses
a collection of stories based on his time as a force in
Alabama football as a vehicle for sharing his views on
spirituality and his relationship with God.
Jerry Glover, author of
Play to Win:
Keys to Victory in the Game of Life
A former head student manager for football at the
University of Alabama under Paul "Bear" Bryant, Jerry
Glover turned his life over to Jesus Christ twenty years
ago. Glover lives in Alabama with his wite, Karen.
He has three sons.
Jerry
received his verifiable “know so” confirmation and
assurance of the beginning of his salvation on June 2nd
1987. This beginning of new life came to Jerry in
the very nick of time, right before the trip off that
proverbial cliff of destruction.
Jerry has
now walked through a twenty one year period of
miraculous transformation and has now received his
calling. This calling is to the share those
incredible times and experiences with the hope that many
others will choose to follow this awesome experience to
the assurance of their salvation.
“Play to Win” utilizes the concept that winning in life
is similar to winning in football. Glover recounts
stories from his 65 years of life as a roadmap both to
success in life and salvation with God. Glover begins
“Play to Win” with the story of how he came to Jesus.
From there he tells many stories about his time both as
a football coach for various Alabama high school
football teams and his time working for the legendary
Coach Bear Bryant. “Play to Win” is written for anyone
who is lost and in need of guidance, or for those who
just need a gentle reminder of what is most important in
life.
It’s not important that people necessarily hear about
the things that occurred to Jerry Glover per se; it is
important, however, that I bring to light the principles
that were involved. Many of these principles are true in
every circumstance and every situation. They are
absolutely capable of guiding anyone into the greatest
victory of all: winning in the big game of life. These
principles apply universally. They apply equally
powerfully in Florida, Illinois, or even China. The
knowledge of these can literally mean the difference
between life and death. The stories and events within
the book primarily occur in Alabama but similar events
are duplicated worldwide.
I attempt here to give an accurate play-by-play account
of my sudden change from being a very disturbed and lost
sinner to being a transformed man, filled with a new
winning life, twenty years in the making. The events
described along this journey each play a role in
determining the final outcome of this most vital of all
contests. The winning of the big game is really the
greatest achievement of all.
Jerry Glover was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He
attended the revered University of Alabama and managed
the “Crimson Tide” under the now-legendary Coach Paul
William “Bear” Bryant. After graduating, Glover went on
to coach football and become a successful business
owner. Glover now lives in McCalla, Alabama with his
wife of 34 years, Karen. Jerry has lived a colorful life
with plenty of highs and lows.
