Melissa Binstock Interview - Nourishment: Feeding My Starving Soul When My Mind And Body Betray Me

One of the fears that many of us have when we talk about getting old is the amount of medicines we will have to take. You have probably seen the pill bottles at your grandparent’s home. Even I have a pill box for AM & PM for each day of the week. But what if you were young and had to take all of these meds? What if you were only 11 and taking 15 different medications? What if you had already seen 10 different doctors and been diagnosed with six different disorders and had already attended 5 different schools? Sorta changes the picture does it not? That is not supposed to happen during our youth. That is supposed to be a time of development, learning and fun is it not? You are supposed to spend your time in the park playing with your friends, riding your bike, swimming, playing ball, basically having fun. For our guest today the first 19 years of her life has been different. She has spent most of her time in doctor’s offices, and hospitals, treatment centers. Today we are going to talk about a book titled Nourishment: Feeding My Starving Soul When My Mind And Body Betray Me. This is an important book for teens who may be suffering from mental illness, peer acceptance issues, and eating disorders. It is a story of searching for love and acceptance a story about wanting life.something every teen longs for. Please welcome to Your Life Matters author Melissa Binstock.

Meg Blackburn Losey Interview - Touching The Light - What Miracles Are Made of

Let's start with today's question...Are you truly convinced that your doctor's medicine is the only form of healing available? Before you answer this, think of all of the alternative medicines and approaches being used today. Chiropractic, just to mention one, everyone knows about and most readily accept as safe and effective. What if we talked about Reiki or Medical Intuitive or Alternative Healer? I wonder how many of our listeners have ever heard of those word or understand what they mean and what happens during a session? What if I asked you about Touching The Light? Most would tell me if better not have been on for a long period of time or they will burn the fingers and hands. Well we are not talking about a light bulb...but the light....the energy...the healing energy. Now I probably have you confused, which is OK. You need to realize that you can heal the body, mind and spirit using energy. Not talking about sticking you in an electrical generator either. The book we are going to discuss today is titled, " TOUCHING THE LIGHT - WHAT MIRACLES ARE MADE OF - HEALING BODY, MIND AND SPIRIT BY MERGING WITH GOD CONSCIOUSNESS". Our guest today you may recognize as she has been a past guest on our show. She is also a dedicated and experienced medical intuitive and alternative healer. She is an accomplished Author of multiple books including her Bestselling "The Secret History of Consciousness" and the international bestseller "The Children of Now among others. She has authored the Online Messages for over 10 years and is a regular contributor to varying publications. She is the host of Cosmic Particles, a live internet radio show every Wednesday at 6:30 pm pacific time on the Awakening Zone. She is a national and international Keynote Speaker and also lectures worldwide. She has also served as a consultant to Good Morning America and 20/20. It is our honor to welcome back to Your Life Matters show Dr. Meg Blackburn Losey.

Have you ever had someone say to you, "what world are you living in?" Or maybe someone said to you "snap out of it and come back to reality." If you are like me you have probably wondered, well wait... what actually is reality?
Dr. Jeff Herten Interview - The Sobering Truth: What You Don't Know Can Kill You

Today on our show we are going to talk about alcohol. The sobering effects that alcohol has on our health, on our lives and how things can change in a moment's notice. We see commercials on TV glamorizing drinking and how cool it is. We have seen the commercial for Captain Morgan asking you to assume the pose. Listen, it is a business. I will give them credit as they do tell you at the end of the commercial about the risk of drinking and even driving. But alcohol is ruining many lives, including the lives of teens. 25% of alcoholics are teenagers. 40% of sexually active girls aged 13-14 report that they were drunk the first time they had sex. If you are older and can drive and make the wrong choice you may take the lives of innocent people in another vehicle. Women & children who were not drinking have their lives taken from them because you chose to drink. How many fraternity parties do we hear about someone dying from alcohol poisoning? How about cancer, heart problems, pancreas problems, osteoporosis, insomnia, hepatitis, obesity, diabetes and more? So do you know the effects of alcohol on Your body? Maybe you are a little like our author today. A high functioning alcoholic. You drink everyday but are successful and function normally. His life was almost destroyed by alcohol and it can happen to you in the flash of a second. The book we will talk about today is called "The Sobering Truth: What You Don't Know Can Kill You". It is written by Dr. Jeff Herten who is our guest today. It is our honor to welcome to Your Life Matters Dr. Jeff Herten.

Melinda Dennis MS, RD, LDN Book Interview for Real Life with Celiac Disease: Troubleshooting and Thriving Gluten Free

So what if I told you that there was a disease that out there that 95% of the people with it had no idea they had it? What if I told you that if it remained untreated it could have risks of malnutrition to cancer? Now, even though it affects only 1% of the population (that we know of), I believe we need to open our eyes to this and be made aware of what the disease is, it's symptoms and how it is treated. Today we are going to talk about Celiac Disease. It is one of the most common autoimmune and gastrointestinal diseases. People with celiac disease may have typical gastrointestinal symptoms, but others have seemingly unrelated problems, and diagnosis is delayed or never occurs. If you have unexplained depression, anemia, infertility, bone degeneration, liver disease, or trouble with your balance then you need to listen closely to today's interview and go out and get yourself a copy of the book, " REAL LIFE WITH CELIAC DISEASE: TROUBLESHOOTING & THRIVING GLUTEN FREE." The book is written by Melinda Dennis who is the Nutrition Coordinator and a founding member of the Celiac Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. It is co-written by Dr. Daniel Leffler who is the Director of Clinical Research and also a founding member of the Celiac Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts. I need to mention also that Melinda was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 20 years ago!

Wayne Brown Interview - Alone In My Universe

I am going to throw a few names at you…Lurch from the Adams Family, Fred Gwynne who you may remember as Herman Munster, Andre the Giant from wrestling, Richard Kiel better known as Jaws from the James Bond Movies, how about possibly even Abraham Lincoln…what do all of these famous people have in common? If you think about their characteristics, you would say they were very tall. And you would be correct. But what you probably do not realize is that they suffered from a disfiguring disease called acromegaly. With the exception of Abe Lincoln, television basically cast these people as freaks of some sort. Many people do some unknowingly cruel things like stare at these people, tell them jokingly you remind me of Lurch, some even laugh and whisper. I know it is ignorance at not knowing about the disease but I am sure if you were suffering from this, there would be days you would find it hard to deal with the illness and its effects on the body without having to deal with the ignorant idiot who is humming the Adams family theme song. Remember we do not make fun of a person in a wheelchair, with Downs Syndrome or other debilitating disease and we need to be aware of our words and actions. So what is acromegaly? Our guest today is going to clue us in so this word becomes a part of our vocabulary. The book he has complied is called, Alone in My Universe: Struggling with an Orphan Disease in an Unsympathetic World. Please welcome to Your Life Matters Wayne Brown.

Bryan Cole Interview - Pride and the Passion CD

Usually when you turn on your radio or tune into a satellite station or just surf the net for music, you hear an artist you may not recognize but you think Man that was good. You have no clue who the artist is but you begin to look for more information on that artist. That is what our musician series here on Your Life Matters is all about. Hearing that music you think, I really like that and finding out more about the artist. Today is absolutely no different. In fact today puts an exclamation point on this theory for our show. You see the artist we are going to present today has been here once last season. His singing voice, playing ability, writing skills are ratable right up there with some of the legends of Country Music. Notice I did not say the best, I said the legends. The breakthrough artist we are going to talk to today is Bryan Cole. Last time we spoke about his debut CD Wide Open Road. On that CD he has a string of veteran studio musicians who have played with the who’s who of country music. The CD remained in the top 10 on the Roots Report Pop Country Chart for over 4 months It was a timeless collection of twelve compositions by Bryan and his longtime collaborator and manager, Michael Stover of MTS Management, as well as such heavyweight tunesmiths as Kent Blazy and Tom Paden, writers of Bryan’s second single, It All Comes Back to Me. Following up the astonishing international success of I’m Comin’ Home, (#1 US Indie World, #11 Italy, #17 Switzerland, #23 Norway, #27 Austria) Bryan rose to the top of the charts once again with It All Comes Back to Me. The second release from Wide Open Road, the song hit both the radio and music video charts (#14 Cashbox, #9 MySpace Videos, #10 Y’allWire.) His third single, If Only charted in the US Top 5 (#4 Cashbox) and received more international airplay than any other of his songs to date. Impressed yet? You should be because his new CD Pride & The Passion is getting acclaimed success both here and overseas. It is our honor to welcome back a great musician, singer, songwriter and friend Bryan Cole.

Christine Devine Interview - Finding A Forever Family

Today we are going to talk about a subject we probably all know about but in many places rarely hear anything about. I am talking about adoption. On any given day in the U.S., more than 423,000 children are in the foster care system, and nearly 115,000 of them are available for adoption, just waiting for the right family to find them. More children become available for adoption each year than are adopted. In 2009, 69,947 children had parental rights terminated by the courts, yet only 57,466 were adopted. Children often wait three years or more to be adopted, move three or more times in foster care and often are separated from siblings. The average age of waiting children is 8 years old. Last year, 29,471 children turned 18 and left the foster care system without an adoptive family. Many of our listeners know of or have watched “Wednesday’s Child” on the news. The show has won numerous awards and we believe rightfully so. Today’s book we are going to discuss is called “FINDING A FOREVER FAMILY: A News Anchors Notebook on Adoption Within the Foster Care System”. Our guest today is the truly amazing Christine Devine. Listen to this list and you will know why I call her amazing 14 Emmys, six for best newscast , Best Anchor Team by Associated Press, National Gracie Allen award by AWRT American Women in Radio and Television, Anna Quindlen award for philanthropy journalism by Society of Professional Journalists, "Angels in Adoption" from the U.S. Congress. She is known for her Wednesday's Child news segment. She has been honored by the U.S. Congress and Child Welfare League of America. Since 1994 Fox 11 News has profiled hard-to-place children in foster care waiting to be adopted. The records show more than 400 children have found forever homes. It is our honor and privilege to welcome to Your Life Matters anchor, reporter, producer, speaker, philanthropist and author Christine Devine.

Milan, Indiana Church of Christ FOUND Youth Group

On May 22, 2011 a 198mph tornado ripped through Joplin, Missouri leaving in its wake over one hundred people dead and injuring over 500 more. The tornado carved a path one mile wide and six miles long. If you see the photos of the area you would believe a war had taken place with bombs ripping the town apart. The devastation will cost in excess of 3 billion dollars to repair and will take years. So when we see the devastation of our fellow Americans, our fellow Christians what do we do? Many gave money or helped collect food, water and necessities. Many people actually went to Joplin to help with the massive cleanup effort. They offered hope, inspiration to people in Joplin so that they would know that their fellow Americans, their fellow Christians did not turn their backs on them in their time of need. Today Jenn & I are doing the show on location at the Milan Indiana Church of Christ. We are with the youth group called FOUND. This remarkable group of teens just returned from four days in Joplin helping with the relief efforts. We invite you to listen to their stories, their recollections of the devastation they witnessed first-hand as well as the love they received and the hope of the residents there after losing everything including someone they knew and cared for.

Thinking about learning a foreign language? Think, at my age that would be too hard and take me forever? Think again. We are going to talk about a terrific program today called Memory Made Easy. The author of this program broke the Guinness Book of World Records by memorizing 52 decks worth of cards with focus and memorization techniques. Late in 2008, he broke his record by memorizing 59 decks of cards. He believes that anyone can improve their memory, improve their reading and learning capacities.
Drew Ryan Maras interview - Open Your Eyes to 2012 and Beyond

You have heard a lot about December 12, 2012 on this show. And today’s question, which we have asked a few times before is what is going to happen in 2012? The date is quickly approaching. Yet nothing changes. The end as we know it is barreling down on us yet we don’t move to respond. This event was foreseen by many brilliant and gifted minds throughout history. All saw December 12, 2012 as the beginning of the end. We must learn from our past to survive the future. Am I trying to scare you? No. I am reading to you from the book “OPEN YOUR EYES: TO 2012 AND BEYOND” which we will be discussing today. As the book states, even NASA is predicting a catastrophic event, possibly of biblical proportions to occur. Has mankind been visited and helped since the beginning of time by aliens? So what IS going to happen? Our guest today is a former US Marine, an avid researcher and crusading advocate for peace, love, hope and—most importantly—truth and author of the book we will be discussing today, please welcome to Your Life Matters Drew Ryan Maras.

Dorma McGruder interview - I Had No Choice

Today we are going to talk about domestic abuse. Here are the facts - 1 in 4 women HAS experienced domestic violence in her lifetime. That is not going to experience, that is has already experienced. Between 600,000 and 6 million women are victims of domestic violence each year. That is 600,000 to 6 million too many. Now when most people think of domestic abuse they think of violence and injury. Domestic abuse can be emotional, verbal, sexual, financial and mental. Our guest today was there and lost everything. She knows firsthand how abusers operate and what victims must do to save themselves before it is too late. The book we will be discussing today is called, I Had No Choice. The book is a part memoir and part novel story of her decade long abusive relationship, and how she went from being a victim to conqueror to a vocal defender for abuse victims. Our guest today is an active public speaker. In fact since the age of 4, yes I said 4, she has been a public speaker addressing crowds from 10 to 10,000 in political, educational, social and religious venues. It is our honor to welcome to our show, Dorma McGruder.

Travis Hankins Interview - Candidate for Indiana Congressman

Recently at our Church, the Westport Christian Church here in Indiana, we got to listen to the testimony of a man who is running for the Congress of the United States. His name is Travis Hankins. Now at Your Life Matters we do not endorse candidates. Nor are we asking you to vote for Travis. In fact the testimony given to the Church members was not for who to vote for either, but an expression of Christian values. Throughout America there are many grass root campaigns taking place. In this past election, we saw where America stood up and changed the picture slightly of American Politics by voting in some of the Tea Party members. We find this fascinating. Most of the time we hear our fellow Americans complain that politicians do not care about us, they are in it for themselves and the money, they have no morals or values…and the list goes on and on. So why do we present to you this testimony from Travis Hankins? There are many Travis’ throughout the country and we are hoping you will give these candidates your ear. These are people who truly care about changing America’s politics and government. How many times I hear what can one person do? You are correct, probably not a lot…but it has to start somewhere and with someone. Think about if we actually researched our candidates, got to know them, knew the principles they stand upon and their beliefs? We, the American people could elect a number of these great Americans and eventually really make the changes we have been yearning for and need here in America. I invite you with an open mind to listen to Travis and his story and think about what you would want in a Congressman representing your area?

Ed Kowalski Interview - 10 years after 9/11 - How much safer are we?

In a few months, we will be honoring and remembering the victims and the families from 9/11. It is amazing to me at least that it has been 10 years since that tragic event took place throughout America. So what have we done to make America safer in the past ten years? Is there anyone looking out for our interests? 12 Americans are murdered every day by illegal aliens. (that’s more than 21,900 murders by illegal aliens since 9/11). 13 people per day are killed by illegal immigrants who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. 62% of all “undocumented immigrants” in the United States are working for cash and not paying taxes, predominantly illegal aliens, working without a green card. Concerned yet? We are. But there is some good news. There are people fighting hard to protect us. NO, I am not talking about the great and brave men and women of the US Armed Forces, I am talking about a group of people, who realize that immigration issues were a major problem before 9/11 and continue to be today, 10 years later. Illegal immigrants here in our country costs taxpayers 113 billion dollars with 75% of that absorbed by the states! Think the economy is bad, last year you spent approx $1,117 in taxes to support illegals! There has been legislation to give driver’s licenses to them, include them in census statistics, and of course border issues. Our guest today is no stranger to our show. In fact if you watch Fox News, he may not appear a stranger there either as he has appeared numerous times on numerous shows. His name is Ed Kowalski. He is part of the Board of Directors, the Treasurer actually of the 9/11 Families For A Secure America Foundation. It is our honor to welcome back to Your Life Matters Ed Kowalski.

Melissa Binstock Interview - Nourishment - Feeding My Starving Soul When My Mind And Body Betray Me

Wanda Blahut Wierzbicki Interview - Without Surrender - A Tribute To A Soldier

I guess I need to begin today’s interview, as I have a few times in the past stating how much we truly respect and honor our men and women serving our country in the Armed Forces. They risk their lives to defend our freedoms each and every day and we nothing but the utmost respect for them. Today we are going to talk about one soldier. There are so many stories out there of brave, heroic men and women who have given all of their lives for our great country. Hopefully we can continue to find and share these great stories with you. Today’s story is about a brother, a Sgt, who served in Iraq until he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He was a member of the New Jersey National Guard. He was deployed in Iraq in 2004. The book is titled Without Surrender: A Tribute To A Soldier. The book is about this brave soldier, his life, his family. It is full of personal photos which gives us an insight into his life. The book was written by his sister. And she is our guest today. Please welcome to Your Life Matters Wanda Blahut Wierzbicki.

Jeanne Muchnick interview - Dinner For Busy Moms - Easy Strategies For Getting Your Family To The Table

So here is today’s question: How do you improve your family’s health, improve their relationships, save money, raise happier kids who get better grades and are less likely to do drugs? Two simple words -Family Dinner! Now I hear the groaning yeah, try to get MY kids to sit down at a dinner table or with soccer practice, ballet lessons, piano lessons, work, cleaning the house, who has the time to prepare a meal that we can all sit around the table and eat together? Well our guest today has a sign on her fridge that says: I serve 3 meals: Microwave, Frozen and Take-Out. She asked herself that same question, even before she got her coat off from work. The reality is dinner is a constant challenge. The book we will talk about today addresses that challenge head on. I want to read a line or two directly from the book. This book is not about making you feel guilty. It’s not about complicated recipes meant to turn you into Martha Stewart. Nor is it meant to berate you if you serve pizza, chicken nuggets, or Chinese take-out on occasion. Rather, it’s meant to help you get your family to the table, turn off the TV, spark conversation, and spend quality time together. Our guest today has more than 20+ years publishing experience as both an editor and a writer. She started her career at Seventeen Magazine, then moved into travel and parenting. Most recently, she was a Senior Editor at the InTown Magazine network, the magazine division of the Westchester-based Journal News where she covered all kinds of lifestyle issues: food, parenting, fashion. She is the mother of teenagers, so she knows a lot of this first hand. Please welcome to Your Life Matters, author Jeanne Muchnick.

Mark Osteen Interview - One of Us: A Family with Autism

Today we are going to talk about autism. Now the word is becoming something that most people have heard about and maybe have a slight understanding of the meaning. So today’s question is what is autism? Here is something that is very alarming and we need to take note of: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in every 110 births in US are born with autism. And it is almost 1 in 70 boys. There are currently a few million Americans living with this spectrum disorder. This can cost a family 3-5 million dollars over a lifetime. OK, so what if it was your child that has autism? There are different levels of autism, so what if your child has severe autism? How would you handle this? Could you accept the fact that your child would always seem different to others. Now, I emphasize the word different. See he may act differently and perceive the world differently from most, but he is a feeling, thinking human being with a disability who deserves acceptance and respect. Today we are going to talk about the amazing book, ONE OF US: A FAMILY’S LIFE WITH AUTISM. It is written by a proud father, sax player, has BA and MA degrees, an accomplished author, a Ph.D. in English literature and teaches at Loyola University in Maryland. Please welcome Mark Osteen to our show.

Confused? As a parent you better not be. This is your child you are speaking about and you better learn and learn quick. The books we will discuss today are meant to do just that.
Gail Rubin Interview - A Good Goodbye - Funeral Planning For Those Who Don't Plan To Die

If I asked you, Do you plan on dying? you would probably answer not for a long time or in fact ever if I had my way. But let’s face it we have had a zero success rate with trying to live forever. Some die tragically way too young. Some die from cancer. Some from a horrible accident. The inevitable is eventually going to happen. How ready are you? You might or at least should have insurance in place. Maybe and I said maybe your burial plot picked out. Even some have their will prepared and up to date. I truly hope you have done all of the above. Do not leave your family burdened with all of that after you pass. Now, what about your funeral? Have you taken the steps necessary for that as well? Do you know what type of funeral you want? Music to be played? How to be dressed? Do you want a Green Burial? How about a cyber funeral? Party afterwards? Favors? Today we are going to try not to be morbid and talk about funerals. It is a subject many of us do not want to talk about much less plan. Today we are going to talk about the great book. A GOOD GOODBYE: FUNERAL PLANNING FOR THOSE WHO DON’T PLAN TO DIE. The author has planned or spoke at hundreds of funerals. She is a Breast Cancer survivor and a member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling. Please welcome to our show Gail Rubin.

Sharon Sakson Interview - Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of Dogs

We have all heard the saying that dog’s are man’s best friend. Anyone who has or has owned a dog will tell you that dogs have changed our lives for the better. They are great companions. They love to play. They are always happy to see us. But today’s question is simple: Did you know that they could save our lives as well? Now I am not talking about Lassie swimming into the pond to pull Billy out by the shirt collar though that could definitely be included here. I am talking about beloved pets who have supported their owners through periods of ill health and other crises with miraculous results. This is more along the lines of the seeing eye dogs I think that is the most common dogs to our listeners. But it goes well beyond seeing eye dogs. The book we will be discussing today is called Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of Dogs. The book is written by a journalist, writer and television news producer who has been involved with purebred dogs for 30 years. She is a judge of Hound and Working breeds. She's bred champion Whippets and Brussels Griffons and she's written four books about dogs. Please welcome to Your Life Matters Sharon Sakson.

Kathryn Petras Interview - B is for Botox

Our guest was Kathryn Petras...author of the book "B is For Botox" and of course some of the world's funniest calendar series. The A, B, Cs of adulthood differ ever so slightly from the popular grade school primers of the past inside Ross and Kathryn Petras's B Is for Botox: An Alphabet Book for the Middle-Aged. This hilarious board book has a fun, retro look and makes a unique gift for grown-ups who don't necessarily want to grow up. Dripping with sarcasm, each letter will remind you that while you still have your sense of humor, jokes about aging seem to ring a little truer than they used to! For example: A is for Antique. Arnold sees his favorite childhood toy, the Atomic Astro-Rocket, on Antiques Roadshow. It is officially an antique! "Hmm," thinks Arnold. Does this mean that now that I'm middle-aged, I'm officially an antique? Hmm. . . What do you think?

Dr. Alicia Stanton Interview - Hormone Harmony

Because of recent research and the controversy that surrounds the risks of hormone replacement therapy for menopausal women, hormone imbalance has become a hot topic, but few straightforward, comprehensive guides have been written on the issue. Our next guest, Dr. Alicia Stanton is co-author of the book “Hormone Harmony: How to Balance Insulin, Cortisol, Thyroid, Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone To Live Your Best Life” fills that gap with an in-depth look at how hormones are deeply connected to nutrition, lifestyle, and supplements. Most importantly, it provides a road map for women seeking to create hormone balance, providing a checklist of symptoms for identifying imbalances. Dr. Alicia Stanton is a specialist in preventative medicine and hormone imbalance, and serves as chief medical officer of BodyLogicMD, a network of physicians specializing in bioidentical hormone therapy. Co-author Vera Tweed, a veteran health writer, has written several books and is a contributing editor for Better Nutrition and other magazines. This book addresses a set of debilitating symptoms that are plaguing millions of women in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s today: weight gain, exhaustion, hot flashes, low sex drive, mental fogginess, irritability, anxiety, and depression. While these symptoms are often associated with menopause, the constant stress of care giving for children and aging parents, juggling work and home life, eating too much and exercising too little, and exposure to environmental toxins is wreaking havoc on the hormonal health of countless women. Despite the pervasiveness of hormonal problems among American adults today, most people are not receiving the treatment necessary to restore them to optimal health.

Judy Mandel Interview - Replacement Child - A Memoir

We can all only imagine how the death of a child would take its toll on parents and a family. It’s a hole that threatens to tear us apart. In an act of hope, the parents have a replacement child. The child is born to heal wounds and provide a “salve for the burns.” The child unwittingly plays her role throughout childhood, riding the deep and hidden currents of the family tragedy. Years later, as an adult, she discovers the truth of her family’s life-changing event and the complex layers of her own relationships with her father, mother, and sister. Not until she finally has a child of her own does she come to grips with what she silently has known all along: Anything can happen. Planes fall from the sky. Our guest today is author Judy Mandel, whose book “Replacement child – a memoir” is a story of love and transformation, revealing the everyday realities behind so many tragic headlines. In her book, you will follow one woman’s brave path to recovery—sometimes through laughter, sometimes through tears—as she embraces the love that allows her to finally forgive.

Here’s today’s question, Do you want to look like a model? When we watch TV or look in magazines we see those gorgeous faces staring back at us. Our next guest has worked with thousands of women and spent countless hours contemplating the nature of beauty...particularly in situations where he was asked to perform a procedure he believed would diminish his patient’s natural good looks. In an attempt to provide as many options as possible, he focused on helping women understand that while surgery has its place, it is not the only road map to looking and feeling great. The book we will be talking about today is called "The Beauty Quotient Formula: How to Find Your Own Beauty Quotient to Look Your Best...No Matter What Your Age." The book is written by DR. ROBERT M. TORNAMBE. While physical traits do play a role in beauty, Dr. Tornambe shows us that what makes any woman truly attractive is based largely on confidence, charisma, personality, and a solid beauty routine and that more often than not, going under the knife is not necessary.
"Where the hell am I? How did I get here?" Beginning at the age of 12, our next guest asked herself these questions many times after waking from alcohol-induced blackouts. During her teens and early twenties, she turned to alcohol to deal with the traumas in her life. In addition to alcohol, she also experimented with drugs, and eventually began using crack to deal with the deep black hole of sadness, loss, and unworthiness that she felt inside herself. That is, until she awoke in a hospital psych ward and saw bandages on her wrists. "The doctor came in and said I was a very lucky girl to be alive," she explains, "and for the first time in my life, I believed it." Today we will talk about her book "Blackout Girl: Growing up and dying in America". It is our pleasure to have on our show, the Executive Director of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program in Harrisburg, PA, she was also appointed commissioner to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, she has been featured in Rolling Stone and Time magazine, and we welcome author Jennifer Storm to our show today.

David C. Fuller - Meth Monster - Crankin Thru Life

Methamphetamine or meth, crank, glass, crystal, ice is quickly becoming the scourge of the human race on a global scale. Meth labs can be found from your next door neighbor's garage to deep in our wilderness lands including state and national parks, destroying everything and everyone meth or it's toxic waste touches. Meth is eclipsing every other drug in America as the drug of choice for several generations of junkies. Meth addicts make meth in these meth labs to support their habit as well as those they sell it to. For a few dollars worth of stuff found in most department stores and with a few vessels and hoses found in the trash meth addicts can make enough mistakes to blow their house or garage into the neighbor's yard. Meth addicts don't care about anything but their meth, which makes them pretty dangerous because of their all consuming need for the drug. With our guest, DC Fuller, author of "METH MONSTER" you can follow the life of one of the most dedicated meth addicts. Follow his journey from the cradle to the gutter from the safety of your favorite chair and your own home. Meth Monster is like the worst train wreck you've ever seen. You can hardly believe what you're reading, but you won't be able to stop till it's over . Please welcome David C. Fuller to our show.

Jeffrey Rossman, Ph.D. - The Mind-Body Mood Solution - The Breakthrough Drug-Free Program for Lasting Relief From Depression

So let’s start right off with today’s question, What is the leading cause of disability in America? My own personal first thought was obesity, but after giving it some thought, I am not surprised that major depressive disorder is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. for ages 15-44. Or that clinical or major depression is the top cause of disability throughout the world for persons 5 and over. In the United States alone, businesses may spend anywhere from twelve to seventy billion dollars caring for or paying for the medical expenses of employees that have depression or suffer from a related mental illness. So it is a fair guess that we have established that depression is a major problem. But what brings it on? We all get depressed at one time or another, but is that a major depressive disorder? How do we effectively treat depression? Do we just give them anti-depressant drugs? Well today our guest is going to answer these and many other questions you may have on depression. He has written a truly great book titled, "THE MIND- BODY MOOD SOLUTION ...THE BREAKTHROUGH DRUG-FREE PROGRAM FOR LASTING RELIEF FROM DEPRESSION." For over 30 years now he has been treating depressed people. He offers a comprehensive, drug-free depression treatment program that fully integrates psychological tools with lifestyle practices such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, breathing, and meditation. Please welcome Dr. Jeffrey Rossman to our show.

Beverly Cobain - Dying to be Free - A Healing Guide for Families after A Suicide

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in the U.S. for ages 15 through 19! In this country, a child or adolescent dies by suicide every 80 minutes, and a youth attempts to take his/her life every 45 seconds. One of ten high school students attempt suicide, while one in five has had suicidal thoughts within the previous year. And it isn't just teens. The suicide rate for 10 to 14-year olds has tripled in the last three decades. Unlike Cancer, we CAN do something about this and do it now! It is preventable! But how do we make this dramatic change? That is today’s question. Today we are going to talk about how to deal with depressed teens and we are also going to cover how to deal with the grief after a teen unfortunately commits suicide. There are two great books we will discuss. The first is called: "When Nothing Matters Anymore: A Survival Guide for Depressed Teens" and the second book is titled, "Dying to Be Free: A Healing Guide for Families After a Suicide." Both books were written by someone who knows about suicides first hand. She is a registered nurse with credentials in psychiatric/mental health nursing. She is a nationally recognized speaker, educator, and workshop leader on the issues of youth depression awareness and suicide prevention/intervention. She has had to deal with 3 suicides in her family, one of which you may have heard of, her cousin Kurt Cobain, lead singer from the band Nirvana. It is our pleasure to welcome author Beverly Cobain to our show.

Mark Osteen - One of Us - A Family's Life with Autism

Today we are going to talk about autism. Now the word is becoming something that most people have heard about and maybe have a slight understanding of the meaning. So today’s question is what is autism? Here is something that is very alarming and we need to take note of...According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in every 110 births in US are born with autism. Today we are going to talk about the amazing book, "ONE OF US: A FAMILY’S LIFE WITH AUTISM." It is written by a proud father, sax player, has BA and MA degrees, an accomplished author, a Ph.D. in English literature and teaches at Loyola University in Maryland. Please welcome Mark Osteen to our show.

Rusty Bladen - Homegrown Rock and Roll

A veteran of the Indiana music scene, Bladen powers the crowd at his shows with an atmosphere of party songs, sing-alongs and a whole lot of audience participation. A college favorite, Rusty has cultivated an extremely loyal Midwestern fan base for his band and his solo performances. Rusty's solo show is a high energy, freewheeling tour-de-force of Bladen originals, songs from the radio, and some excellent hippie country-rock tunes. The band show is an exhibition of what five guys holding onto the same roots rock and roll rope can pull an audience into. The band shows are fun, rockin' and loud. The solo shows are fun, rockin' and almost as loud. lling more than 15,000 copies of his original CD's, Ride That RIver, Everything for Everybody, Rockin Your Houseparty, Are You Happy Now? and Live Acoustic at the Hoosier Theater, Bladen ranks as one of the best selling independent artists in the state.

Dr. John M. Kennedy Interview - The 15 Minute Heart Cure

Recent finding: A University of Southern California study that looked at 735 patients for more than 12 years found that chronic stress and anxiety were better predictors of future cardiovascular events (such as a heart attack) than other risk factors. The researchers estimate that those who reduce or stabilize their stress levels are 50% to 60% less likely to have a heart attack than those who experience increasing stress. All of us have known or know about someone who had a massive heart attack, often while being involved in a stressful situation. Yet we continue to race through life without realizing that the stress we confront daily is increasing our own risk of meeting a similar fate. In his new book THE 15-MINUTE HEART CURE: The Natural Way To Release Stress and Heal Your Heart in Just Minutes A Day, our guest today the distinguished cardiologist Dr. John M. Kennedy makes a powerful case for stress reduction as a key to fighting heart disease and then shows us how to do it. The book was also written by Jason Jennings. Based on extensive research and filled with dozens of anecdotes, THE 15-MINUTE HEART CURE takes readers through the science of how the heart works, highlights the four major types of heart disease, and explains the affects of stress. The heart of the book, though, is Kennedy’s innovative BREATHE technique that helps people relax and requires only fifteen minutes a day to implement.

Dr. Michael D. Banov Interview - Taking Antidepressants

Here is today’s question: What is the most commonly prescribed class of medicine in this country? I will give you a hint...since 2005 over 190 million prescriptions a year have been written for them? If you do not know, I am talking about anti-depressants. But what do we really know about them, as patients. Are they safe? Do they work? Are they addictive? What are the side effects? Do I really need to be taking them? The book we will be discussing today will cover all of this information. The book is a neutral book, meaning we are not knocking anti-depressants. We are not going to tell you they are evil. Our guest today wants to explain what they are, how they work and how they affect our lives and bodies. The book we will be discussing is called “Taking Antidepressants: Your Comprehensive Guide to Starting, Staying On, and Safely Quitting.” Our guest today has conducted more than 100 clinical research studies, is a triple board-certified adult, adolescent, and addiction psychiatrist and is the medical director of Northwest Behavioral Medicine and Northwest Behavioral Research Center in Atlanta, GA. Plus he still sees patients which will give us a very unique look at depression. It is our pleasure to welcome to Your Life Matters Dr. Michael D. Banov.

Nadia Sahari Interview - Breakaway

From the time she was five years old until she was in her early twenties, our next guest and author Nadia Sahari was a victim of horrific abuses, many of which came at the hands of her own family. Born to Arab parents and, even though she grew up in the United States, the strict Middle Eastern rules for women remained in place. As she tried to assert her freedom she found herself being punished horribly for it. Nadia Sahari was born in Beirut, Lebanon. She came to America at the age of two. She is 5'3" tall and petite in frame. Nadia is the eldest of eight children: five sisters and two brothers. She speaks fluent Lebanese. She has been an entrepreneur most of her life to help in the support of her two children. At times she worked three jobs a day, keeping a hectic pace which eventually led to a breakdown. But Ms.Sahari stood up again and continued the fight to make her dreams come true. She never gave up. It is our honor to welcome to Your Life Matters, Nadia Sahari.

Ryan G. Van Cleave, Ph.D. Interview - UNPLUGGED: MY JOURNEY INTO THE DARK WORLD OF VIDEO GAME ADDICTION

It started years ago with Donkey Kong, Super Mario or Space Invaders. People would line up at the video machines in stores to play and to play against each other. As home PCs became more common, the games made it into people’s homes and lives. The game The Sims started people sitting in front of their PC for hours on end. More and more games came out. The access of the Internet made gaming even more common and acceptable. Anyone who has ever been on Facebook knows about Farmville, or Mafia Wars. X-Box, WII, and now lets even try to lure some of the older people back in with The Rock Band Series and The Beatles! So here is today’s question. how much time do you spend a week playing video games? Be honest, we cannot hear your answer. If you do not think video game addiction is a problem, know that in 2007 more than 5 million kids may have been addicted. It is a multi-billion dollar industry. Like cigarettes, many people are hooked and will not even admit it. You will hear, I am doing it to have fun I am not harming anymore Our guest today has heard all of this we will talk about his book "UNPLUGGED: MY JOURNEY INTO THE DARK WORLD OF VIDEO GAME ADDICTION".
Jennifer L. Martin Interview - Blue Fingers, Brass Knuckles

So let’s start right off with today’s question, How would you survive Multiple Sclerosis, Thyroid Cancer, Weight Loss Surgery and Severe Anemia? Our guest today would answer simply The Power of Inspiration, Faith, Courage & Love. This is a great self-help educational book for not only the patient, but their family, friends, care givers and also for the people in the process of getting diagnosed of any auto-immune disorder. What started out as keeping a couple of diaries worth of notes became a wealth of information because it is told from the patients’ perspective, not the doctors. Remember, the doctors tell you what they know based from books and what to expect "before" going through a surgery. After you read this book, you will see and understand what you could possibly go through "after" the surgery. You will get the "big picture" about the procedure and you won't be taken by surprise, as that is what happened to our next guest. The book we will discuss today is called "Blue Fingers Brass Knuckles: The Power of Inspiration, Faith, Courage and Love." The author is a patient advocate and a inspirational and motivational speaker. It is our pleasure to welcome to Your Life Matters Jennifer L. Martin.

Louis Sadler Interview - Orphaned Spirit - The Power To Heal

Could you survive, even prosper, after a childhood of horrific abuse in every imaginable form? Lou Sadler, author of Orphaned Spirit...The Power to Heal, did just that. His mission with this book is to help others who have suffered into adulthood from the consequences of child abuse. Forced by a lawsuit to publicly tell the tale of abuses he suffered as a youth, Mr. Sadler chose to turn what many would view a shameful history into victory. He shares with his readers how his spirit was crushed as a boy, and how the impact on his self-esteem found its way into sabotaging his adulthood. Ultimately, through a lot of hard work and techniques used by everyone from Jesus to Neale Donald Walsch, he found ways to heal his orphaned spirit. The book Orphaned Spirit begins tragically, but by the end readers are given time-tested tools and techniques (conventional and controversial) to heal their own spirit from a haunting childhood. Please welcome to Your Life Matters author Louis Sadler.

Mike Bartlett and Bill Bean Interview - The Second Coming of Jesus - Parts 1 and 2<

The end is near. The end is near. As a former NYer I can remember a man, we thought was crazy, standing on a street corner with that sign trying to, hoping to get your attention. But are you now concerned with everything that is happening that you read or hear in the news that this IS the end of the world? We have had the devastating attacks on this country on 9/11, the Earthquake and Tsunami at Sumatra, Hurricane Katrina's catastrophic flooding of the city of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast states, Global warming, birds falling out of the skies, fishes washing up on shore dead, this past week we had an earthquake in China which few heard about and of course the one we all are still reading about the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. I have not even started to touch on the events that should be causing us alarm. You have heard numerous authors speak about the December 21, 2012 and the end of the Mayan calendar and what that might mean for us right here on this show. Well today, I want to quote the infamous British comedy troupe Monty Python And now for something completely different. We are not going to be talking about a book that an author wrote. Actually we are going to be talking about a book, written by a number of authors. One book. One book that explains what is happening in our world today. The one book, everyone needs to turn to before it is too late. That book is the Bible. If you have not read it, you need to do so now. More important than any other book we have spoken about on this show. More important for inspiration and education than any book we have discussed so far on this show. It is so important not to turn this show off without listening with an open mind if you are not a baptized believer. Today, we are blessed to have 2 very special guests, both of which have been on our show a few times before. In our studio is our religious consultant, friend, minister and teacher Mike Bartlett. Also joining us today by telephone, another great friend, author, teacher, musician, public speaker and a firm believer in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior ,please welcome Bill Bean back to our show.
