ABUSE

Jane Boucher

It is a very sad fact, but almost everyone knows someone who is the victim of domestic abuse. It does not discriminate by gender, ethnicity, or age group, plus it is true that 95 percent of its victims are women. The bruises, scars, and emotional wounds will affect one in every three women in the U.S. yet countless women return, again and again, to their abusers. They are trapped in the revolving door of abuse. For those who are able to escape, the choices are grim: poverty, homelessness, and health problems await many women and their children. Our guest, fames author, nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, professional speaker Jane Boucher is here to talk about her book “ESCAPING DOMESTIC ABUSE: HOW WOMEN GET OUT AND STAY OUT”. In this revealing and candid book, you will meet courageous women who broke away from abusive relationships to escape the agonizing pain and find lasting peace.

Mary Jo Buttafuoco

Before May 19th, 1992, our next guest lived in Massapequa, Long Island which is in New York. She was a housewife with a husband and 2 children, a boy and a girl. Trying to be a good mom and wife and just trying to get through life like everybody else. But all that changed on that day in May, when she answered the door to find a young girl on her front stoop. She had never heard the name Amy Fisher, but now, for the rest of my life, she will live forever with her on any Google search.

Yes, you have probably all heard of the case known as the Long Island Lolita Saga…well today we have the privilege to speak with Mary Jo Buttafuoco.  Mary Jo has written a book called “GETTING IT THROUGH MY THICK SKULL - Why I Stayed, What I Learned And What Millions Of People Involved With Sociopaths Need To Know” and it is our priviliedge to have her with us today on Your Life Matters.

Roger Dean Kiser

By the age of four, our next guest, author and child advocate Roger Dean Kiser had been abandoned, first by his parents and then his grandparents and placed in a Florida orphanage. Unable to adapt to the difficult, often cruel and abusive environment of the orphanage, and stigmatized by his repeated attempts to run away, he was transferred to a Florida reform school at age twelve.

Roger's poignant recollections of his painful childhood experiences will take you into the heart of a child abandoned by his family and abused by the system responsible for his care.

THE WHITE HOUSE BOYS: AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY

Roger Dean Kiser

After years of allowing the lies and abuse he suffered as a child define his past and cloud his future, Roger who is author of The Whitehouse Boys: An American Tragedy  decided to find a way to make sense of a childhood replete with verbal, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse before it was too late. In his new book A Better Yesterday: Living Life After Abuse, Kiser revisits his past and makes a conscious choice to focus on the kindness and happiness he experienced throughout his life. Sharing his heartfelt memories of kind people, loving animals, and comforting events, Kiser affirms the benevolence of the human spirit and demonstrates the healing capacity that random acts of compassion can have on a child. A Better Yesterday reveals the precious, defining moments that molded Kiser into a caring, loving person despite the experiences of a childhood cloaked in misery.

Roger Dean Kiser Andrew Puell

Many of you will remember Roger who joined us on one of our earlier shows with his book The White House Boys: AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY. If you do not remember the interview, I HIGHLY recommend you go back and listen to the interview. Roger joins us today with author Andrew Puel. Roger and Andrew have released the book THE TRUTH? YOU DECIDE and it is our pleasure to welcome Roger and Andrew to our show today.

Louis Sadler

Could you survive—even prosper—after a childhood of horrific abuse in every imaginable form?  Lou Sadler, author of
Orphaned Spirit…The Power to Heal, did just that.  His mission with this book is to help others who have suffered into adulthood from the consequences of child abuse.

Forced by a lawsuit to publicly tell the tale of abuses he suffered as a youth, Mr. Sadler chose to turn what many would view a shameful history into victory.  He shares with his readers how his spirit was crushed as a boy, and how the impact on his self-esteem found its way into sabotaging his adulthood.  Ultimately, through a lot of hard work and techniques used by everyone from Jesus to Neale Donald Walsch, he found ways to heal his orphaned spirit.

The book Orphaned Spirit begins tragically, but by the end readers are given time-tested tools and techniques (conventional and controversial) to heal their own spirit from a haunting childhood.

Nadia Sahari

Nadia Sahari was born in Beirut, Lebanon. She came to America at the age of two. She is 5'3" tall and petite in frame. Nadia is the eldest of eight children: five sisters and two brothers. She speaks fluent Lebanese. She has been an entrepreneur most of her life to help in the support of her two children. At times she worked three jobs a day, keeping a hectic pace which eventually led to a breakdown. But Ms.Sahari stood up again and continued the fight to make her dreams come true. She never gave up.

From the time she was five years old until she was in her early twenties, our next guest and author Nadia Sahari was a victim of horrific abuses, many of which came at the hands of her own family. Born to Arab parents and, even though she grew up in the United States, the strict Middle Eastern rules for women remained in place. As she tried to assert her freedom she found herself being punished horribly for it.

ADDICTION / DISORDERS

Dave Andrews

These days we see more and more shows about getting sober popping up on TV. We have seen Mel Gibson’s rants when he is intoxicated. Lindsay Lohan could probably give you a few good hours on the subject as well. But it is not only Hollywood with the problem…22 million Americans have a drinking problem. Kinda sad that the number is that high. I was shocked when I saw that…but it really makes me wonder how many more there are that have not been counted? Well if you are one of those Americans or know someone who is, with the economy the way it is, have you thought about how much money you are spending on alcohol and how that is affecting your life? How it is doing for your relationship? Must be working wonders! Oh, and let’s not forget the health risks those doctors tell you about and what alcohol is doing to your body? Do you care? Well you should and our next guest is here to help. His name is Dave Andrews. I am not going to tell you his story, I am going to let him do that. But he has developed a system “The Sobriety Solution” with DVDs and a workbook to help you recover, reclaim and re-invent your life without alcohol. And it is our pleasure to welcome Dave Andrews to Your Life Matters.

Maren Angelotti

Here is an amazing statistic: More than one in four children with learning disabilities drop out of school, and only about one in eight attend four-year-college within two years of leaving high school (National Center for Learning Disabilities). Parents of children with learning differences such as ADD/ADHD and Dyslexia have a unique and exciting road ahead of them. This phenomenon may have been perceived as a burden when their child was first diagnosed with these learning differences, but they also know that God does not make mistakes. God has a special purpose in mind for every person created in His image, and that includes each one who is learning-different! Therefore, parents must refocus their personal expectations of what their child should be and find out where God is guiding this child. It is time to become God’s helper in raising His child. In the book “Of Different Minds” readers learn why their child is wired a little differently and how to cope with and educate this incredible person. Our guest today is the author of the book Maren Angelotti who is an Academic Language Therapist and AD/HD instructor for both children and adults.

There is good news for parents of children with ADD, AD/HD, dyslexia and other learning differences: God has a special purpose in mind for every person created in His image, and that includes each one who is learning-different! If you are unsure about how to help your child succeed with his or her particular challenges, Of Different Minds will become an indispensable guidebook of practical tips and expert insights offered with the unshakeable belief that God doesn’t make mistakes. In addition to easy-to-understand clinical information and summaries of the latest research, you’ll find out how to: Communicate so that your child can understand you, Promote good behavior at home and at school, Make educational choices based on what is best for your child, Strengthen your family to weather inevitable storms,  And much more! God has big plans for your child, and the challenges he or she faces are a part of that plan. Randy Baird

Our guest was Randy Baird who discusses Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. He is the author of "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - Alcoholism and Disorder" Randy Baird grew up in a supportive family during the Fifties and Sixties – a time which afforded him boundless opportunities. However, at a young age, it was discovered that he suffered from what today is known as OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. For him, this disorder manifested itself in the form of constant and severe anxieties. Since little was known of this disorder when he was young, Randy quickly learned how to cope and cover up any signs of his problem. After fifty years battling this monster, along with an ongoing struggle with alcoholism, he has decided to open up and tell of experiences that only his immediate family knew of. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder expresses his finding the meaning of life in spite of the pain and suffering of OCD and alcoholism.

Lorri Benson

When we look in today’s magazines or on TV shows, most of the time we see these very slim, sometimes skinny models on almost every page or every teen show. Young girls want to be like these models and live that glamorous life. Image is so important to these girls that they want to control the amount of food that is digested into their bodies to control how they look. Everyone is different: genetically and their metabolism. So what works for some, does not work for others. Here is something I found really disturbing: It is estimated that 8 million Americans have an eating disorder – seven million women and one million men. There are three women for every 100 American women who suffer from bulimia. Our guest today is Lorri Benson. Lorri along with her daughter Taryn have written the book DISTORTED: How a Mother and Daughter Unraveled the Truth, the Lies, and the Realities of an Eating Disorder.  Lorri is here to share their story with us today.

Richard Broom

On July 5, 1982, our guest today got drunk, fatally killed a man and did not remember doing it. He had suffered from what is called an alcoholic blackout. Today he is a recovering alcoholic with more than 23 years of sobriety.  He believes that prison and Alcoholics Anonymous saved his life. In 1997, he began working for Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches, Inc. (FL), where he continues to share his story of horror and delusion under the influence of addiction, and to celebrate the joy of his new life today. Our story today is about an addiction and how you can recover and begin to live life again. Our guest is author Richard Broom who speaks to us about his memoir Cocked and Loaded. The book will take readers on the ultimate road to redemption; finding recovery and healing inside prison; making peace with the repercussions of his disease and actions; and finding a place and purpose in life after murder. He explains to us how anyone can plot their own path back from the brink of self-destruction. I also want to note that He counsels law enforcement officials who are coping with their own addiction.

Georgene Collins

Our guest will be author, nurse Georgene Collins who will talk about her book "Obesity Free Forever" which discusses how not only to lose the weight but keep it off forever. Georgene lost over 140 pounds 5 years ago and has kept it off.

Wanting to become "Obesity Free Forever™" led to twenty-five years of researching facts on bad eating habits and the truth about eating disorders that resulted in a personal weight loss of over 120 pounds in 13 months. A total weight loss of 145 pounds!

Karen Conterio
Dr. Wendy Lader

Here is today’s question…do you know what Self Injury means? The dictionary says it is defined as the intentional, direct injuring of body tissue without suicidal intent. There is the assumption that, although temporarily helpful, self-injurious behavior is ultimately a dangerous and futile coping strategy which interferes with intimacy, productivity and happiness. But let’s get it straight, there is no "safe" or "healthy" amount of self-injury. Self-injury is not an addiction over which one is powerless for a lifetime. People can and do stop injuring, with the right kinds of help and support. Self-injury can be transformed from a seemingly uncontrollable compulsion to a choice. Self-injury is one of our society's fastest-growing and most disturbing epidemics. That is today’s subject…self injury. We will talk about the book “Bodily Harm: The Breakthrough Healing Program For Self Injurers”. We will discuss the S.A.F.E. Alternatives Program (which stands for Self Abuse Finally Ends). This program was founded by our two guests Karen Conterio and Dr. Wendy Lader. They are also the authors of the book. It is our pleasure to welcome Karen Conterio and Dr. Wendy Lader to our show.

Shannon Cutts

Imagine a World in which it is easy to find someone to turn to who understands your struggles, identifies with your wounds, and knows how lonely and scary it feels to live inside your skin. In this fantastic brave new world, you would face your eating disorder head on, standing tall and firm with supportive friends by your side as you get better—and stay that way! Well our next guest, author. speaker, writer, performing songwriter and mentor, Shannon Cutts will talk about her book “Beating Ana: How to outsmart your eating disorder and take your life back” shows us how to open the door to this world as she introduces you to a whole new way of thinking about and recovering from your eating disorder. Beating Ana takes on a new approach that no eating disorder book has taken; she emphasizes the importance of mentoring relationships to the recovery process.

David C Fuller

Methamphetamine or meth, crank, glass, crystal, ice is quickly becoming the scourge of the human race on a global scale. Meth labs can be found from your next door neighbor's garage to deep in our wilderness lands including state and national parks, destroying everything and everyone meth or it's toxic waste touches. Meth is eclipsing every other drug in America as the drug of choice for several generations of junkies. Meth addicts make meth in these meth labs to support their habit as well as those they sell it to. For a few dollars worth of stuff found in most department stores and with a few vessels and hoses found in the trash meth addicts can make enough mistakes to blow their house or garage into the neighbor's yard. Meth addicts don't care about anything but their meth, which makes them pretty dangerous because of their all consuming need for the drug.

With our guest, DC Fuller, author of “METH MONSTER” you can follow the life of one of the most dedicated meth addicts. Follow his journey from the cradle to the gutter from the safety of your favorite chair and your own home. Meth Monster is like the worst train wreck you've ever seen. You can hardly believe what you're reading, but you won't be able to stop till it's over.

The author of The Man Overboard: How a Merchant Marine Officer Survived the Raging Storm of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, Darryl Hagar knows what it's like to be trapped in addictions that hijack your life and prevent you from achieving your personal and professional dreams. A skilled ship's navigator, Darryl spent 20 years on the high seas working harder and longer than most of his shipmates, but his addictions cost him the rank of Captain.

Chief Todd Hampton

Our guest was Westport Police Chief Todd Hampton. Chief Hampton talks about drugs and their effects on teens and adults. He gives us insightful tips on what parents should be watching out for...signs that their children may be involved in drugs. Also what adults need to keep our eyes open for when it comes to drug operations in homes (such as meth labs).

Gary Hennerberg

For our next guest, it all started at the age of 6. It becomes a new painful, secret addiction that many times can go un-noticed for years. Listeners to our show should now know what the word Trichotillomania is. Our guest today knows about the hair pulling’s allure, shame and isolation as he suffered from it for 45 years. We have given you a teen’s point of view as well as a woman’ point of view. Today, author Gary Hennerberg will give us the male perspective of living with the condition and talk about his book “Urges: Hope and inspiration for people with trichotillomania and other mysterious compulsive disorders” Gary began a lifetime of hair pulling at the age of six while growing up on farms along the Nebraska and Kansas border. Gary has written the story of his life, and how three primary approaches have helped him cope with this mysterious compulsive disorder in his book titled Urges.

Monique Holeyfield

Life hasn't always been what I thought it should be when I think about my past. I spent 16 years as a crack addict while married to two men who were also addicts; one of which was a drug dealer.  After two gunmen threatened to kill me in my own home, it was time to rethink the way I was living. This meant finding my way through the forest of fear and doubt; followed by embracing life in every way possible. Today, we begin a two part interview with author Monique Holeyfield. Monique was invited to speak about the book "Letters From Prison". Upon beginning her interview with us, she began to elaborate on the story of her years addicted to crack cocaine. We began to ask more questions and the first 45 minutes of our interview turned into a fascinating, intriguing story we wanted to share with our listeners.

Alexandra Katehakis

Salt ‘N Pepa once recorded a song, “Let’s Talk About Sex”.  So today we will. This show will contain mature subject matter so I have given you our disclaimer. “Will I ever have sex again?” This question is asked most often by sex addicts in the process of recovery. You have to remember sex addicts have a desire for sexual relations and recognize a need to understand how to have sex in healthy ways. So what is healthy sex? What classifies a sexual addict in the first place? Today we will be talking about the book “Erotic Intelligence: Igniting Hot Healthy Sex while in Recovery from Sex Addiction.” The book is written by a licensed Marriage, Family Therapist, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist. She is the Founder and Clinical Director of the Center for Healthy Sex in West Los Angeles, CA. and is the author of the book. She is also one of the nation's foremost experts on sex addiction. It is our honor to welcome Alexandra Katehakis to Your Life Matters.

Rosemary A. Cunliffe North

Let me ask you for today’s question Is it only men that are addicted gamblers? Well very rarely do we see women portrayed as someone with a gambling addiction. It is mostly the men.  In the past it is true that men outnumbered the women in this category but more and more women are entering this disorder at an alarmingly high rate with the problem.  The compulsive gambling disorder in women then tends to get worse at a much faster rate than in men.  Men seem to become addicted to more interpersonal forms of gaming, like blackjack, craps or poker, whereas women tend to engage in less interpersonally based betting, like slot machines or bingo. Men with pathological gambling tend to receive counseling about issues other than gambling less often than their female counterparts. Surprise you? It did me. Our guest today knows all about this first hand. She is the author of 3 books we will be discussing today, “Beyond the Glitz & Glamour of Las Vegas”, “Women Overpowered by Compulsive Gambling” and her latest book, “A Stranger Within”. Please welcome to our show, author Rosemary A. Cunliffe North.

Dr. Demitri Papolos

Here is today’s question: What is Bipolar Disorder? Do you really know the answer? If you are not a physician, you probably know since you have a child that suffers from the disorder. But for the rest of us we do not know how the disorder is diagnosed, what the symptoms are, if they are mistaken for something else, what do we do for treatment and what about long-term care? Many questions and our guest today has many of the answers. The book we will discuss today is called, “THE BIPOLAR CHILD: THE DEFINITIVE AND REASSURING GUIDE TO CHILDHOOD’S MOST MISUNDERSTOOD DISORDER.” Our guest today is an associate professor of psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and along with his wife, Janice present a comprehensive view of early-onset bipolar disorder, focusing on how this complicated illness evolves in children. It is our honor to welcome to Your Life Matters Dr. Demitri Papolos.

Barb Rogers

"12 Steps That Can Save Your Life" author tells us about his struggles in life and her inspiring stories overcoming all of the challenges she faced.

Men and women, different ages, ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic levels, with varied addictions, from across the US, came forward to share stories about what it was like to work a specific step of the 12 steps, ie; what happened when they didn't. Interpersed with Barb's story of recovery in a 12 step program, are real life stories of those who are making a difference in their lives, and how they did it. It is a study of genuine recovery through the stories of real people.

Abby Leora Rohrer

While many people get the image of two women fighting, pulling on each other’s hair. Well today we want to talk about a different type of hair pulling, a serious impulse control disorder problem for some people. Trichotillomania (trick-a-till-o-mania) is a disorder that causes people to pull out the hair from their scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, pubic area, underarms, beard, chest, legs or other parts of the body, resulting in noticeable bald patches. Hair pulling varies greatly in its severity, location on the body, and response to treatment. For some people, at some times, it is mild and can be quelled with a bit of extra awareness and concentration. For others, at times the urge may be so strong that it makes thinking of anything else nearly impossible. It may seem to resemble a habit, an addiction, a tic disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Our guest today is author
Abby Leora Rohrer who is an ex 27-year compulsive hair puller. Her book, " What's Wrong with Pulling My Hair Out? Breakthrough Secrets & Powerful Answers to End Your Trichotillomania Forever Without Medication, Willpower or Diets” is based on her own healing experience with the disorder over 10 years ago. It provides the first rays for hope and healing from the previously grim outlook for hair-pullers.

Jennifer Storm

Where the hell am I? How did I get here?" Beginning at the age of 12, our next guest asked herself these questions many times after waking from alcohol-induced blackouts. During her teens and early twenties, she turned to alcohol to deal with the traumas in her life. In addition to alcohol, she also experimented with drugs, and eventually began using crack to deal with the deep black hole of sadness, loss, and unworthiness that she felt inside herself. That is, until she awoke in a hospital psych ward and saw bandages on her wrists. "The doctor came in and said I was a very lucky girl to be alive," she explains, "and for the first time in my life, I believed it." Today we will talk about her book “Blackout Girl: Growing up and dying in America”. It is our pleasure to have on our show, the Executive Director of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program in Harrisburg, PA, she was also appointed commissioner to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, she has been featured in Rolling Stone and Time magazine, and we welcome author Jennifer Storm to our show today.

Ryan G. Van Cleave Ph.D.

It started years ago with Donkey Kong, Super Mario or Space Invaders. People would line up at the video machines in stores to play and to play against each other. As home PCs became more common, the games made it into people’s homes and lives. The game “The Sims” started people sitting in front of their pc for hours on end. More and more games came out. The access of the Internet made gaming even more common and acceptable. Anyone who has ever been on Facebook knows about Farmville, or Mafia Wars. X-Box, WII, and now lets even try to lure some of the older people back in with The Rock Band Series and The Beatles! So here is today’s question….how much time do you spend a week playing video games? Be honest, we cannot hear your answer. If you do not think video game addiction is a problem, know that in 2007 more than 5 million kids may have been addicted. It is a multi-billion dollar industry. Like cigarettes, many people are hooked and will not even admit it. You will hear, “I am doing it to have fun…I am not harming anymore…” Our guest today has heard all of this…we will talk about his book “UNPLUGGED: MY JOURNEY INTO THE DARK WORLD OF VIDEO GAME ADDICTION”. It is our pleasure to welcome to Your Life Matters teacher, professional speaker, an addiction & recovery consultant, Executive Director of C&R Press and author of 16 books, Ryan G. Van Cleave.

Bruce Zamelsky

Careers in public safety, especially EMS, can be rewarding but extremely stressful, providing many moments a provider never forgets. In "Memoirs of a Firefighter Paramedic," today’s guest Bruce Zamelsky takes readers through his 20 years of EMS experience, ranging from his start in the profession to and his transition to other emergency services. Bruce Zamelsky spent three decades as a certified firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, fire instructor as well as a teacher of EMT classes.

The author further describes an array of challenging emergency response cases for which he provided EMS and rescue services. The author is brutally honest about how certain emergency calls are emotionally difficult to deal with and how he managed to move on to the next call.

BIOGRAPHY / HISTORICAL

Barry Boschelli

Let me take you back to the 1950s on the North side of Chicago. 2 childhood friends. They were Boy Scouts together, sang Christmas Carols together, played practical jokes on neighbors, basically did everything together. What if your friend grew to become one of America’s most gruesome serial killers by the name of John Wayne Gacy? What if you almost became victim #34? Well our next guest was this other childhood friend. Author Barry Boschelli joins us today to talk about his book, “JOHNNY AND ME: THE TRUE STORY OF JOHN WAYNE GACY”.

Helias Doundoulakis

Our next guest was an American born boy who grew up in a small village on the Greek island of Crete. In his last year in high school, he witnessed the German invasion of Crete, in May of 1941, during the early days of WW II. At the age of eighteen, he joined a resistance group headed by his brother, and supplied crucial information to the SOE, which is an arm of the English Intelligence Service. This resistance group is uncovered, resulting in their hasty evacuation by the SOE, to Cairo, Egypt. In Cairo, this author and his brother were asked to join the English Intelligence Service, but rather, pursued the American OSS, which is the Office of Strategic Services, the newly formed American intelligence counterpart. They were enlisted into the US Army, and attached to the OSS, where he was trained in the SI, or Secret Intelligence sector, which included parachute jumping, wireless/Morse code training, commando/defense training, locks/safe-cracking techniques, escape methods, and environment assimilation techniques.  After being transformed into a skilled “spy”, he was sent back to Greece undercover, and along with a Greek naval intelligence officer, set up a communications cell in Salonica, Greece’s second largest city, whereby daily coded messages to OSS Headquarters in Cairo were sent. One such message describes the course of events surrounding the bombing of the main railroad yard in Salonica, and the loss of thousands of German troops, as well as recalling the near-capture encounters with the German Gestapo and the Greek police. In his book, “I Was Trained To Be A Spy”, he also recounts his personal experiences of his escape from Crete through the mountains, the evacuations by an English torpedo boat, his OSS training, the return mission to Greece, and his final return to the United States. It is our honor to welcome a truly dedicated and decorated veteran of the US Army to Your Life Matters Show

Noor Ellias

Lebanon, the smallest yet one of the most strikingly beautiful countries in the Middle East, has been the center of political turmoil throughout human history; and our guest today  would live through one of those harrowing times that spanned fifteen years as Lebanon became the playground of international and homespun warlords. You will discover how she survived when everything around her was crumbling. This is an engaging true story of discovery. The name of the book we will be discussing is called “In the Hands of the Refiner: A Story from Lebanon  it takes the reader through the author’s moving and thrilling wartime journey, as well as her battle with numbing personal loss and pain, years before the war began. Surrounded by death and uncertainty, Ellias refused to give up until she recovered her peace and freedom.  We are honored to have as our guest today, the author Noor Ellias.

Ivan Gabor

Our guest today didn't have a fascinating life; he had many. Constantly changing names and circumstances, he lived through war, famine, persecution and bitter loneliness to taste artistic and romantic fulfillment even while dealing with the worst imaginable trauma. With help from writer Jeff Beal, his true story is never predictable and always fascinating. It is a breathtaking true account of a life so extraordinary, it reads like fiction. It's an inspiring journey of transformation, from harrowing holocaust survival to triumph in foreign lands, and the conquest of a passionate love that spans four continents and as many distinct identities. Taking us on this odyssey and marvel is a remarkable human spirit. When we finish this interview I want you to ask yourself, would you survive? How would you live with the memories of desperation and destruction? Our guest today is Ivan Gabor and the book we will be talking about today is called “Echoes of My Footsteps: An Autobiography”

Bob Hamer

For a quarter of a century, our next guest was an undercover street agent for the FBI, pretending to be drug dealers, killers, burglars, gamblers, and weapons dealers. The culmination of his most interesting career was his infiltration of NAMBLA, a secret organization of pedophiles; it was also one of his toughest assignments, due to the potential psychological damage that could be incurred when posing as someone so loathsome. Bob Hamer’s book “The Last Undercover-The True Story of an FBI Agent’s Dangerous Dance with Evil” takes us through Hamer’s professional life, from his first undercover assignment in 1980 to the NAMBLA case, which exposed this hidden club to public scrutiny and condemnation. The stories he tells are compelling, dramatic, and often surprising. We will also be talking this morning about his latest book “Enemies Among Us”

David Sleppy

Here is today’s question, How would you exist if you felt no one saw you? Now, I am not talking about anything paranormal. I am talking about real people. People, many of us pass everyday on the streets of the big cities. You see them there, but do we? Have we learned to block them out? Make believe they do not exist? Keep walking or sometimes speed up just to get by them? The people I am talking about is the homeless people in America. I lived in NYC…I saw them every day. I even saw people do anything they could to avoid them. They were afraid these people were crazy, would rob them, spit on them and more. But who are these people? How did they get there? Our next guest asks that same question. Using his eloquent use of photography, he has compiled a powerful depiction of our overlooked brothers and sisters, living on the streets…alone, hungry, sometimes freezing. Most did not choose to be there. With today’s economy it can happen fast. And it is happening to people, even families every day. The name of the book is “No One Sees Me” and it is our honor to have a fellow Hoosier businessman join us today on Your Life Matters
David Sleppy.

Dr. Michael Stone

The crimes of Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Dennis Rader, and other high-profile killers are so breathtakingly awful that most people would not hesitate to label them "evil." In this groundbreaking book, renowned psychiatrist Michael H. Stone-host of Discovery Channel's former series Most Evil-uses this common emotional reaction to horrifying acts as his starting point to explore the concept and reality of evil from a new perspective. In an in-depth discussion of the personality traits and behavior that constitute evil across a wide spectrum, Dr. Stone takes a clarifying scientific approach to a topic that for centuries has been inadequately explained by religious doctrines.

Even though you may not be rolling in the dough, you can still throw parties that are festive, yet inexpensive, and brilliant in their simplicity. Our guests, Andrea Olguin and Pam Kietzman are authors of the book “Carefree Food Buffets”. These gifted food enthusiasts have come up with an A-Z guide that leaves virtually all of the guesswork out of throwing fast, fun and fabulous summer soirées.

Carefree Gourmet was conceived of in 2000 by Andrea Olguin. After spending time catering, attending chef school, avidly reading food magazines and trying new recipes out on her family and friends, as well as providing advice to friends and family on party planning, she identified the need to create a way to make entertaining more approachable and affordable. Too many of the current publications focused on complicated recipes, hard to find ingredients and techniques that required training and practice. People she spoke to were intimidated by the recipes, didn’t have the time to learn, or a clue as to how to get started. Their only other option was to hire a caterer, which didn’t’ fit into everyone’s budget. So many friends chose not to entertain at all.

DIET / EXERCISE / WEIGHT LOSS

William Anderson, LMHC

For dieters struggling to lose the weight—be it the last 10 or a lifesaving 100 pounds—people have long relied on the same methods with varying results: stop eating late at night, use willpower to resist the fun foods and exercise everyday. But those methods just don’t work, says our guest today, psychotherapist William Anderson. Whereas the majority of weight loss plans stress dieting and exercise, Anderson asserts that it’s more important to focus on making changes in a person’s relationship with food and how they eat. He is the developer of a very successful program and the book, “The Anderson Method”.

In The Anderson Method, you'll learn the secrets of permanent weight loss, revealed by licensed psychotherapist William Anderson, who lost 140 pounds after 25 years of obesity and failure with more diets than he can count. In doing that, he discovered the ground breaking formula for permanent weight loss that he teaches as Therapeutic Psychogenics, The Anderson Method. After maintaining his weight loss for over twenty years, and helping hundreds of his clients to experience this same success, he is spreading the word. Today, he is teaching other therapists in their own communities, as trained and licensed providers of The Anderson Method. In this book, he shares his story and his unique methods with you.

EDUCATION

Our guest today is Shannah Godfrey, author of the book “A Pretty Girl was Alpha-Bette” and creator of the acclaimed Godfrey Method.

 Suzy Koontz

Author of the book "Multiply With Me: Learning to Multiply Can Be Fun" Suzy Koontz speaks to us about how to get kids into math and learn the methods that helps them remember.

I am on a mission to promote math confidence and stomp out math anxiety! Physical activity and movement facilitates learning. When you add fun to the equation, the result is a child-centered approach that optimizes math learning and retention. My books show you how to harness a child's love of movement and turn it into enthusiasm for acquiring number concept skills.

My school visits and workshops teach movement activities that strengthen math skills and improve math confidence while having fun. Encouraging children to combine movement and math practice is a powerful method for strengthening math basics. Thank you for visiting my site and giving me the chance to share my passion for math with you!

In just 15 minutes a day, you can improve your child's math skills. Play a board game that includes money or keeping score, jump rope while skip counting by threes or walk the dog while counting backward by fours. Have your children count steps in the grocery store between aisles, and count out loud as they place items on the checkout stand. Remember hopscotch?! It's a great way to move to the numbers!

Chris Colby

If you have listened to our show you know at Your Life Matters we care of the environment and being “green”. Well it is time to m
ove over granite countertops because Solar panels and tankless water heaters are catching on and they are the hot must-have items in new home construction. Going green has long been considered cost prohibitive to many Americans wanting to build eco-friendly homes. But last year’s record surge in energy prices is leading a lot of consumers, architects and homebuilders to rethink the math. The idea of opting for an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient home isn’t only starting to be seen as an affordable option. It’s being sold by some architects and homebuilders in United States as one that could end up saving homeowners hundreds of thousands of dollars -- and even make money. To speak with us about this fantastic change in attitude and thought is our GUEST TODAY architect Christopher Colby who is the
Principal and Co-Founder of Spire Architecture & Design.

Would you consider artificial insemination? Now before you start answering, I want you to go back 20 years. Today we test donors extensively, get a medical history and try to ensure the donor is safe. This was not the way it was 20 years ago. You knew nothing except what the doctor tells you. FINANCE

Sid Davis

Our guest was Sid Davis. Sid has authored 4 books on home selling, buying and effective renovations.
How do I pick the right home? How much can I afford? What do I do first? How do I avoid common mistakes? This book answers all these questions and hundreds more. Sid wants to be sure you talk to the right people, ask the right questions, cover all the bases, and get the best possible house for your budget. Step-by-step checklists help ensure you're doing everything right, and at the right time. His book helps readers face the challenges of deciding whether or not to use an agent (and how to find one), estimating a price, and deciding which upgrades are worth making -- and which ones are not -- to add to their home's value. When preparing to sell a home, every little thing counts. "Home Makeovers That Sell" offers everything from last-minute tidying tips and staging strategies to inexpensive improvements that will boost the market value of any home. The key is to allow potential buyers to see the home as they might live in it, not how the current owner does.

Annie Korzen

Forget fashionistas. Meet the bargainista. Annie Korzen is a thrifty woman with expensive tastes. Raised by an immigrant mother who reused tea bags, Annie learned early on how to be an economista. In Bargain Junkie, Korzen shares her hilarious tales from the trenches--the garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores, rummage sales, and online auctions. Korzen haggles, scrimps, saves, and stretches her dollars and her imagination so she can afford to travel, dress well, and eat out whenever possible.

Donald H Young

If you just look around you it is easy to see that people around the world are experiencing something which has not happened since the 1930s, and with all the disappointments and uncertainties which 2008 brought, it is not surprising that people are buying US government obligations which pay negative interest just to be sure that they get their money back.

Achieving financial security is always an important objective, but the present circumstances make it imperative and provide real motivation. Our next guest is Donald H. Young, author of the book “You Can Do It – An Easy Step by Step Guide to Financial Security” This book makes it possible to focus on the key elements involved in achieving financial security at a time when even more can be accomplished than is normally the case, particularly from an investment standpoint.

HEALTH

Cheryl Alkon

Diabetes can be especially hard on women. The burden of diabetes on women is unique because the disease can affect both mothers and their unborn children. Diabetes can cause difficulties during pregnancy such as a miscarriage or a baby born with birth defects. Women with diabetes are also more likely to have a heart attack, and at a younger age, than women without diabetes. For women who do not currently have diabetes, pregnancy brings the risk of gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes develops in 2 – 5 percent of all pregnancies but disappears when a pregnancy is over. Women who have had gestational diabetes or have given birth to a baby weighting more than 9 pounds are at an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes later in life. The prevalence of diabetes is at least 2 – 4 times higher among African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, and Asian/Pacific Islander women than among caucasian women. The risk for diabetes also increases with age. Because of the increasing lifespan of women and the rapid growth of minority populations, the number of women in the United States at high risk for diabetes and its complications is increasing. Today we are going to be talking about the book, “Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-Existing Diabetes: Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby”. It is a down to earth guide for diabetic mothers-to-be. The book explains everything from what is diabetes to labor, delivery, and infertility. Unlike existing books written in dry scientific language, this is a unique patient-written guidebook that includes medical facts, first person reports, and interviews from women living with diabetes who share their pregnancy related experiences.  Today we are talking to writer, researcher and editor and someone who has had Type 1 Diabetes for over 30 years, author Cheryl Alkon.

Abigail Carter

From time to time we talk about the tragic events of 9/11. We have spoken to the 911 Families for a Secure America Foundation a few times about the tragic events. By now everyone has seen the events on some TV show a few times. But it is different for our next guest, author Abigail Carter. Abigail's husband, C. Arron Dack, was probably in Windows on the World, the restaurant atop the World Trade Center, when the planes hit on 9/11. Although she hoped he'd miraculously survived, when he didn't turn up the next day, she began her grieving. It is an honor to have on our show today, Abigail Carter. Now I want listeners to understand that this is not a show on the tragic events of 9/11 but a show on how to deal with grief and begin to move on with your life.

Dr. Dave Clarke

Dr. Dave Clarke is our guest who gives us insightful information on stress related illness and how sometimes doctors are unable to find anything wrong with you. He has written the book "They Can't Find Anything Wrong". In many illnesses that bring someone to a doctor, the cause cannot be found with medical tests. This occurs when the symptoms come from hidden stresses in a patient's life that leave no physical damage. The symptoms are quite real, however, and may occur anywhere in the body. This condition, called stress illness, can be mild or severe and causes symptoms in millions of people that may last for years. Now there is a new approach to this common problem.

Terrell Clima

Our guest was Terrell Clima. Her compelling and heart-felt story is captured in her book "Don't Pull That Plug". The book talks about her husband's accident and recovery. Compelling story everyone needs to hear! Months after doing her interview we still are amazed by her story!

Beverly Cobain

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in the U.S. for ages 15 through 19! In this country, a child or adolescent dies by suicide every 80 minutes, and a youth attempts to take his/her life every 45 seconds. One of ten high school students attempt suicide, while one in five has had suicidal thoughts within the previous year. And it isn't just teens. The suicide rate for 10 to 14-yr olds has tripled in the last three decades. Unlike Cancer, we CAN do something about this and do it now! It is preventable! But how do we make this dramatic change? That is today’s question. Today we are going to talk about how to deal with depressed teens and we are also going to cover how to deal with the grief after a teen unfortunately commits suicide. There are two great books we will discuss. The first is called: “When Nothing Matters Anymore: A Survival Guide for Depressed Teens” and the second book is titled, “Dying to Be Free: A Healing Guide for Families After a Suicide.” Both books were written by someone who knows about suicides first hand. She is a registered nurse with credentials in psychiatric/mental health nursing. She is a nationally recognized speaker, educator, and workshop leader on the issues of youth depression awareness and suicide prevention/intervention. She has had to deal with 3 suicides in her family, one of which you may have heard of, her cousin Kurt Cobain, lead singer from the band Nirvana. It is our pleasure to welcome author Beverly Cobain to our show.

Eighty percent of adult smokers want to quit completely, according to a survey by Gallup and the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But the nicotine in cigarettes is an addictive drug that makes quitting difficult . . . but it is NOT impossible. It's time to try a very different approach to smoking cessation.  This is a "do it yourself, but not by yourself" approach. The involvement of others is extremely helpful to the smoker's commitment and staying power. If a smoker involves family, friends and co-workers in their cessation program they increase their chance for success. Our guest today is Dr. Joseph R. Cruse. He is the founding medical director of the Betty Ford Center. He comes to us with a program that applies addiction recovery techniques and includes the importance of feelings and increased self-worth. If you want to quit smoking, you can laugh and feel good while you are freeing yourself from your addiction. Using powerful and positive affirmations, retraining your brain, and calling in a virtual army of support from others, this program makes smoking cessation a lifechanging and joyous adventure! His valuable book “I Don’t Smoke” A Guidebook to Break Your Addiction To Nicotine” is today’s show subject.

Gregory David

Our guest was author Gregory David who speaks to us about Hepatitis C, his discovery and how it has changed his life.

In his first book, Gregory David allows the reader a peek into a personal and frightening time in his life. Be inspired as he confronts the Hepatitis C virus and refuses to accept defeat.

As Gregory David made that first journal entry over eleven years ago documenting his fight with Hepatitis C, he knew then that someday his journal would become a book giving others hope, and the will to fight the Hepatitis C virus.

Jason Deierlein

Our guest is author, speaker and a true inspiration Jason Deierlein. At age 16 popular swimming star Jason was in a horrible car accident and in a coma facing some of life toughest challenges to survive and life a normal life. We bring you Jason & his story about the book "Return From A Comatose Mind".

  Eric & Glenna Edney

Our next guest was first diagnosed with ALS in 1993 although his first symptoms occurred in 1990. He was a 60 year old extremely active outdoors man. Like many diseases it progressed slow at first and then speeded up later. So the question I have today is what do you do when your medical doctor tells you that you have a terminal illness and to go home and die because basically there is no cure? Well during his first few years with ALS he had gathered a wealth of information about ALS and developed a program to beat it.  The book was completed towards the end of 2001. The book was written primarily for ALS patients. However, the ideas and suggested treatments are applicable to many health problems particularly neurodegenerative illnesses similar to ALS such as MS, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, etc. We are talking about Eric Edney. The first book we will speak about today is “ERIC IS WINNING: BEATING A TERMINAL ILLNESS WITH NUTRITION, AVOIDING TOXINS AND COMMON SENSE.” Along with his wife Glenna they have written a second book “SURVIVING WITHOUT YOUR MD: DO PRESCRIPTION DRUGS EVER CURE?” THIS IS POSSIBLY THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE NON-TECHNICAL AND PRACTICAL BOOK ABOUT HEALTH CARE YOU MAY EVER READ; especially if you have a heart problem, cancer or any neuro-degenerative illness. THIS BOOK COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE, or extend your life for many years without going to any extreme. It contains tons of information about living in a POLLUTED world and how to cope with that. And it is our pleasure to welcome to the show today Glenna and Eric Edney.

Dr. Neil Fiore

According to the American Cancer Society, Nearly 1.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with cancer in 2009 .   Over one-half million have died.
Our guest is Dr. Neil Fiore, a licensed psychologist, trainer and author. Dr. Fiore is the former president of The Northern California Society of Clinical Hypnosis, has conducted training at the California School of Professional Psychology, Summit Hospital, Smithsonian Institute, Levi Strauss, UCSF and Stanford and has attended seminars led by Dr. Milton H. Erickson. His book “Coping with the Emotional Impact of Cancer: Become an Active Patient and Take Charge of Your Treatment” offers hope and steps on how to deal with the stress and depression of cancer and its treatment and how to communicate with doctors and family. More important, Dr. Fiore suggests ways to build emotional support systems with physicians, family and friends. He also shows us how personal attitudes can have an enormous impact on the course of recovery.

Dr. Neil Fiore

Our guest this morning is Dr. Neil Fiore.  He is a renowned psychologist, lecturer and bestselling author. You may remember Dr. Fiore was on our show recently speaking about his book “Coping with the Emotional Impact of Cancer”. He has actually written 4 books and has been published in many professional magazines. Today he joins us to speak about his book, “AWAKEN YOUR STRONGEST SELF: BREAK FREE OF STRESS, INNER CONFLICT AND SELF SABOTAGE“. In this revolutionary program he makes it surprisingly easy to change your life, one small step at a time. He's already helped thousands of people with his gentle approach to awakening the mind. Using the latest discoveries of neuroscience, he's developed an effective technique that actually retrains the brain to "turn off" negative thoughts. By teaching your brain to respond differently to everyday things, you can overcome self-destructive habits, reduce dangerous levels of stress, and increase productivity and creativity. It's all part of a gradual but rewarding process--the full awakening of the Strongest Self you were meant to be.

Catherine Frompovich

Here is today’s question though there are two of them I am going to ask. First: How many of you have or had silver fillings in your teeth? Second: With the world releasing into the atmosphere, water and soil thousand of chemical pollutants as well as chemical sbeing added to almost every type of food do you believe this is having an impact on our health and well being? Regardless of your answer you need to listen closely to today’s interview and purchase the book, “Our Chemical Lives and the Hijacking of our DNA”. The book is written by our guest today who is a natural nutritionist and writing instructor. She is the former editor of The Heathcare Rights Advocate which is a newsletter focusing on the policies of health care. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, her books were used by teachers in elementary schools to teach nutrition, a subject - and lifestyle - that she feels truly is imperative in maintaining one's health from its prenatal stage and throughout life.  At one point in her career during the 1980s, she had a cooking show on cable TV.  Of course, it was devoted to the natural way of preparing food. And it is our pleasure to welcome Catherine Frompovich to our show.

Robert Gibbs

Here is a staggering statistic: Each day in the United States, 482 people are diagnosed with a brain tumor. Now that is just in the US alone! For these 482 people, not many treatments exist.  With those available treatments, only 5% of those diagnosed with a Glio-blastoma Multiform will survive more than 5 years.

Only two new treatments have been approved by the FDA in the past 20 years.  But there is hope is on the horizon:  there are a few promising treatments that exist but are only in the clinical trial stages.  However, some of the treatments are personalized, and require the actual tissue from the patient's brain tumor to be properly stored and preserved, so that it can be used to make those personalized treatments.

Our guest today knows all of this firsthand:  he has survived almost 6 years since his brain tumor diagnosis in 2004, thanks to cutting edge treatments and an experimental brain cancer vaccine he received.  In Clearwater Florida, Robert Gibbs and his wife Barb has founded “Miles For Hope” to fund brain tumor clinical trials and to provide travel assistance to brain tumor patients enrolled in brain tumor clinical trials. It is our honor to welcome to the show today, Robert Gibbs.

Carol Harper

Our guest today, author of the book, “Of Face Value” Carol Harper was on her way to work when she was hit head-on by a drunk driver.  In the 100 mph impact, Carol's face was ripped apart from the skull and her bones were crushed to powder.  The doctors didn't think Carol would make it through the night due to a severe brain injury. It is a miracle that she survived. There is no doubt that Carol Harper is one of the fortunate ones.  Most victims of drunk drivers don't survive.  She turned her tragedy into a triumph by telling her story to educate, inspire, and save lives.  She joins us today on Your Life Matters to share her story with our listeners.

Barry Hendrickson

Many of us strive to make sure that our hair looks great every day. Many women and even men spend hours fixing and adjusting to get that certain look. Well what if you just had chemotherapy and as many of us know, one of the side-effects of the chemo is hair loss. Some have no problem going out in public with no hair though many people look for an alternative so that they may not feel so self-conscious. Our next guest addresses this problem and has a book to help. Our guest today is Barry Hendrickson. Barry is an internationally renowned wig designer and celebrity-stylist. His book which we will talk about today is called “Looking Like You: a step by step guide to medical hair replacement”. The book offers inspiration, fashion and beauty tips as well as expert advice on how to find the perfect wig for women undergoing chemotherapy.

Brenda J. High

Listeners to our show know we have talked about this subject in the past. The subject is bullying. We have talked about bullying in the workplace, in relationships and in school. Sadly, I do not believe we can talk about it enough until something is done about the problem. How many children are going to die before we do something? How long will children have to suffer before we wake up to a major problem in America. Is it going to take some more national new stories before we start to speak out? Well, today we are going to talk about the book “Bullycide in America – Moms Speak Out About The Bullying/Suicide Connection.” This is not a book about blame or guilt, although it may certainly spark that kind of discussion. This is not a book about getting even or setting the record straight, although it may do that as well.  And, this is not a book for clinicians, although it will offer some scientific data and educational resources. This is a book of real stories about real kids. Kids who took their own lives because they thought it was their only way out of a hopeless situation.  It is about the tragic choices they made in an effort to end the pain - when they believed there was no other solution. It is told by mothers who are willing to share their own personal pain as they watched their children suffer and struggle. It is about their own efforts to advocate for their children while they continue to deal with their own devastating loss and the aftermath of bullycide. Now I have to tell you I did not write that description about the book, it was written by Judy Kuczynski who is the mother of a bullied child, Tina, who died in a car accident in 1998. She is also the President of Bully Police USA. Our guest today is Founder and co-director of Bully Police USA and also is responsible for compiling the stories for the book.

Lea M. Hill

Here is today’s question…do you know what a sylph is? Sylphs are elemental beings of the air (some say they look like fairies) who live and play in the clouds. Their purpose is to deliver messages to humans and other beings.  Want to see a Sylph? Just look up in the sky for thin, wispy sylph-clouds that look like angels or unusual cloud formations.  Sylphs are invisible, but what we see in the sky are the sylph-clouds that they have created for us to admire. Did you know there is a Sylph Society? The society’s website is a site for kids who read or write fantasy stories or create fantasy art. Today we are going to be talking about two books. The first book is called “The Society of Sylphs” and the second book is called “Autism Tomorrow”. “Autism Tomorrow” is a book written for kids that have autistic siblings.  Our guest today is author, master level Reiki practitioner, a Certified Angel Healing Practitioner, and an intuitive medium. Please welcome to Your Life Matters Lea Hill .

Dr. Leonard Horowitz

Our guest has come full circle over the past 30 years beginning and triumphing in natural healing. A "World Leading Intellectual," once christened "The King David of Natural Healing" for his award-winning books exposing the drug cartel's medical mischief.
Dr. Leornard Horowitz is, far and away, healthcare's most riveting speaker He is best known for being a Robin Hood of sorts - stealing trade secrets from global industrialists and drug companies and freely distributing them to common folks for their own protection, physical salvation, and even spiritual evolution.. His persuasive messages have inspired hundreds of thousands of grass roots supporters to take personal responsibility for their own healthcare while declaring freedom and independence from generally accepted medical practices (particularly risky vaccinations.). Millions of people worldwide credit this retired dentist turned public health and emerging diseases expert for glimpses into the politics of medicine, controlled by a global petrochemical-pharmaceutical cartel, that prior to his labors and publications remained largely hidden. His books have inspired screen writers, movie directors, and documentary films. His appearances on network news shows and nationally syndicated radio programs have prompted political movements. His in-depth investigative reports on the anthrax mailings moved America 's media to the source of the serial slayings. His testimony on Capitol Hill regarding mercury-related vaccine toxicity, autism, and officially sanctioned negligence brought the hearing to an abrupt halt. Now he has turned his attention to matters much more pressing for world health and civilization's evolution--The Concert for the Living Water(s), LIVE H2O. Dr. Horowitz believes the planned event holds the greatest hope for purging ailments, ignorance, and animosity from the global village. He says this science-based, mathematical-musical event is all about LOVE.

Sarah Rees Howell

For our guest today, she was a child born in 1948 with Cerebral Palsy. Mainstreaming disabled kids into public schools was not done in those days. Sarah was sent to private boarding schools, where she entered into a terribly harsh environment. As a child, she embraced nature. She became friends with a variety of animals, one in particular, a horse she named Ringo. He remained in her life for 30 years. His devotion and unconditional love helped her learn to help herself and others. It helped her to find her still small voice of truth. The name of the book is Ringo’s Gift and it is our honor to have as our guest today Sarah Howell.

Jaydra Hymer

When we think of childhood—visions of children laughing and playing, flying kites, climbing trees, and enjoying their carefree, happy years should fill our minds. Unfortunately, there are many children today whose childhood is filled with frequent failure, stress, frustration, failing grades, forgetting and losing things, difficulty with peers, emotional melt-downs, continually being reminded and/or scolded, and minimal joy in their life. These are the hallmarks of a child with
ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Our guest Jaydra Hymer, author of the book “Turn Your Child’s ADHD Stress Into Success” is a child and family consultant and educator.  For nearly three decades, she has taught and worked with children and parents at many levels.  From owning and directing a private pre-school and childcare center with an enrollment of over 200 to training early childhood educators and counseling parents, Jaydra has been at the center of the issues and challenges facing children today.

Cheryl Jenkins

Parenting Parents - The inevitable aging and role-reversal process.
Many people have been faced with the dilemma of having to care for their own parents. Becoming a parent’s caregiver is morally the right thing to do. Our next guest, author Cheryl Jenkins’s book, “She Just Wanted to Dance Again: My journey to parenting my parent and a simplified guide to becoming a parent’s caregiver.” provides a look into Jenkins' resolve, with a touch of humor, to become her mother's caregiver. Recommendations, many of which have been praised by the medical professionals providing support and care, are provided for others contemplating this journey. It's important to recognize the need to learn from each other and pass on a legacy of the knowledge, skills, and compassion to our children so that when it is their turn to step up to the plate and take care of older generations, they will have a better idea where to start. This book demonstrates how the author confronted adversities that had to be overcome when faced with the reality of parenting a parent. At the end of the day, if one aspires to this challenge, it will also become a passage of healing and everyone will become a better person as a result of whatever level of change transpires.

Dr. John M. Kennedy

Recent finding: A University of Southern California study that looked at 735 patients for more than 12 years found that chronic stress and anxiety were better predictors of future cardiovascular events (such as a heart attack) than other risk factors. The researchers estimate that those who reduce or stabilize their stress levels are 50% to 60% less likely to have a heart attack than those who experience increasing stress.
All of us have known or know about someone who had a massive heart attack, often while being involved in a stressful situation. Yet we continue to race through life without realizing that the stress we confront daily is increasing our own risk of meeting a similar fate. In his new book THE 15-MINUTE HEART CURE: The Natural Way To Release Stress & Heal Your Heart in Just Minutes A Day, our guest today the distinguished cardiologist Dr. John M. Kennedy makes a powerful case for stress reduction as a key to fighting heart disease and then shows us how to do it. The book was also written by Jason Jennings. Based on extensive research and filled with dozens of anecdotes, THE 15-MINUTE HEART CURE takes readers through the science of how the heart works, highlights the four major types of heart disease, and explains the affects of stress. The “heart” of the book, though, is Kennedy’s innovative BREATHE™ technique that helps people relax and requires only fifteen minutes a day to implement.

Peggy Kennedy

For as long as she could remember, our next guest bore witness to her mother's mental illness. While growing up in the 1960s, her mother, Barbara, often liked to play games of make-believe and tell the children they were all going to Neverland--just like Peter Pan. But while the children knew it was all pretend, Barbara believed it to be all too true. Our special guest this morning, author Peggy Kennedy’s book: “Approaching Neverland
A Memoir of Epic Tragedy & Happily Ever After” recounts Peggy and her family's attempts to deal with their mother's mental illness during a time when it was little understood and even feared. With brutal honesty and surprising humor, Peggy shares the turbulence of growing up under the shadow of Barbara's illness, of being shuffled from one family member to the next, and of visiting her mother in the mental institution. As the years pass, the shadows of Barbara's challenges become a loving legacy in Peggy's quest to achieve happiness and fulfillment in her life. This book is a vivid, haunting portrayal of one woman's struggle to understand how the past fits in with her future, It is beautifully written and will stay with you long after the last page is read.

Your home life is good, kids and work are good, but you one of the millions of women who feels like there is a giant boulder is strapped to your back? You are exhausted but can't sleep. You find absolutely no joy in anything you do or in the people around you. You are forgetful and easily confused. You are overwhelmed, anxious, and emotionally bankrupt. Jim McDonald

We’ve all experienced that sudden, rush of emotion when another driver cuts us off in traffic—our hearts beat faster and our bodies go into attack mode. When it happened to our next guest, author Jim McDonald, he had a startling realization: He had given the other driver (whom he didn’t even know) tremendous power over him.  After years of struggle with alcoholism McDonald achieved sobriety and has developed remarkable insights into making positive shifts in thinking and behavior, especially when coping with strong emotions. Instead of suffering from addiction, he now enjoys life and helps others to overcome painful, negative patterns.

Dr. Bradley Nelson

In The Emotion Code, renowned holistic physician and lecturer Dr. Bradley Nelson skillfully lays bare the inner workings of the subconscious mind. He reveals how emotionally-charged events from your past can still be haunting you in the form of “trapped emotions”; emotional energies that literally inhabit your body.

Dr. Nelson explains clearly and concisely how trapped emotions can create pain, malfunction and eventual disease. In addition, trapped emotions can exert a dramatic effect on how you think, the choices that you make, and how successful you will be.

Perhaps the most important discovery that Dr. Nelson has made is that trapped emotional energies will often gather around the heart, creating a “Heart-Wall” that may block you from giving and receiving love freely.

The Emotion Code is a powerful and simple way to rid yourself of unseen baggage. Releasing trapped emotions often results in the sudden disappearance of physical problems, self-sabotage, and recurring relationship difficulties.

Filled with real-world examples from many years of clinical practice, The Emotion Code is a distinct and authoritative new work that is destined to become an instant classic on self-healing.

Wondering About is the personal journey of a mind that has used imagination, curiosity, and wonder to try to make sense of the world, using science as the bedrock of the road taken. The journey is personal in that today’s guest has recently discovered that he suffers from Aspergers’ Syndrome, a form of high functioning autism that makes relating to other human beings extraordinarily difficult. Through the many sufferings of this condition prior his diagnosis, his curiosity and passion to understand have allowed him to keep asking questions, and develop his own mind to where he can share it with others.
David J. Strumfels lives and writes with his wife and two amazing (to him, at least) children in Philadelphia, PA. Actually, his wife is amazing too, as she is a Vietnamese “boat person” who grew up in war and Communist conquest of her land, and was fortunate enough to survive the many ordeals she has gone through. Although he has been to Vietnam as a tourist, in 1999, he met his wife at a local community college in 1981.

Dr. Cheryle Sullivan

Dr. Cheryle Sullivan shares some of her journey with you. After my 2002 Tramatic Brain Injury (TBI) I was continuing to have difficulty dealing with the losses I'd had, both in my own personal functioning abilities and the related loss of my career.  In 2005 I had a near fatal car accident, with resultant injuries that were potentially life-threatening.  As I recovered from these injuries, my father had a near fatal accident and suffered a TBI.  Almost the entire year was wiped out in dealing with these issues.  Just as I was getting my feet under me in 2006,   I found out that my 12 year old Boston Terrier was at risk of dying due to a faulty heart valve and my younger, and I thought much healthier Boston Terrier developed a brain tumor.  Fortunately, it was a type sensitive to radiation treatment and he responded well.  When I asked his veterinarian what might be the consequences of the tumor and treatment in relationship to his cognitive function, I was told "He only has to be a dog<".  This gave me a start, as he would likely be as happy as before, even with cognitive changes, because he didn't expect himself to be more than just a dog.

Dr. Robert M. Tornambe

Here’s today’s question…Do you want to look like a model? When we watch TV or look in magazines we see those gorgeous faces staring back at us. Our next guest has worked with thousands of women and spent countless hours contemplating the nature of beauty—particularly in situations where he was asked to perform a procedure he believed would diminish his patient’s natural good looks. In an attempt to provide as many options as possible, he focused on helping women understand that while surgery has its place, it isn’t the only roadmap to looking and feeling great. The book we will be talking about today is called “The Beauty Quotient Formula: How to Find Your Own Beauty  Quotient to Look Your Best – No Matter What Your Age.” The book is written by DR. ROBERT M. TORNAMBE.  While physical traits do play a role in beauty, Dr. Tornambe shows us that what makes any woman truly attractive is based largely on confidence, charisma, personality, and a solid beauty routine—and that more often than not, going under the knife isn’t necessary. It is our honor to have as our guest today Dr. Robert Tornambe.

Linda Watson

Fascinating talk with author of the book "Facing Death: A Companion In Words and Images". A must have for anyone who has a loved one who is terminally ill. The challenge of preparing for one's own death is enormous. It is difficult to overcome one's own reluctance to talk about death and dying -- let alone the fear of family and friends -- and yet it helps the process for the words to be shaped. In addition, in the final stages of life, the endurance for study is limited but the need for meaningful content is very great. The morsels of wisdom and comfort in Facing Death, along with the beautiful, accompanying nature photographs, address these needs. Throughout, this book allows readers to make their own sense of what is presented, to access what is offered in their own fashion, to identify particular items for frequent re-visiting, to personalize and customize, if and as they wish.

Rae-Lynn Cebul Ziegler

Today’s media coverage of Alzheimer’s disease centers on finding a cure. Painfully little attention goes toward what can be done for the growing number of individuals who currently live with the disease. It is fairly safe to say that a cure will never be developed in their lifetimes. How can we make a difference for them now? Why now wake up someone’s brain with every turn of the page. Our next guest Rae-Lynn Cebul Ziegler has created the book “LET’S LOOK TOGETHER – AN INTERACTIVE PICTURE BOOK FOR PEOPLE WITH ALZHEIMER’S AND OTHER FORMS OF MEMORY LOSS “ which features images of children. This picture book for adults is to be shared between family or a caregiver and a person with memory loss to encourage meaningful emotional connections and conversations through therapeutic brain stimulation.

Winter Safety

Our guest today is Major Darin Lucas from the Decatur County Sheriff's Department here in Indiana.

Major Lucas shares safety tips with our listeners, especially during the winter months.

HUMOR

Kathyrn Petras

Our guest was Kathryn Petras...author of the book "B is For Botox" and of course some of the world's funniest calendar series.

The A, B, Cs of adulthood differ ever so slightly from the popular grade school primers of the past inside Ross and Kathryn Petras' B Is for Botox: An Alphabet Book for the Middle-Aged. This hilarious board book has a fun, retro look and makes a unique gift for grown-ups who don't necessarily want to grow up. Dripping with sarcasm, each letter will remind you that while you still have your sense of humor, jokes about aging seem to ring a little truer than they used to!

INSPIRATIONAL

Sylvia Anthony

For the past week or so, we have been talking about Domestic abuse. We have given you information on how to get out of the relationship. We spoke to Pastor Mike Bartlett about how men misread the message in the Bible about their roles and women. In both cases the message was clear, if you are being abused, get out and get out now. Many women worry where are they going to go? How will they be able to support their children? Who is going to care for their welfare and safety? Today we are about to talk to an amazing woman. Her name is Sylvia Anthony. We talk will talk about her book, “Sylvia’s Haven” which is a documentary based on Sylvia’s amazing life of accomplishments, mistakes, successes and failures. Then we will talk about “Sylvia’s Haven” which is a shelter she runs for homeless women and children. She has helped improve the lives of more than 1000+ women and children over the past 23 years. We are truly blessed to have Sylvia join us on our show today.

Claudia Broome

Rugby Jones had it all. Top dog on the beautiful Pennsylvania horse farm, keeping the other cat and dogs in line, helping his mistress Claudia with the horses – rascally Rugby lived the quintessential “dog’s life”. But all that changed on that tragic day when another dog injured him beyond repair. Rugby Jones was paralyzed, his lower back ruined. “Put him out of his misery,” everyone said. But Claudia refused to accept common wisdom. She knew Rugby Jones had the will and courage to overcome. If they both worked hard together – the way they always did – Claudia and Rugby would find a way for him to walk again. It is a story of hope, trust, courage and unconditional love that we all, young and old can learn from. Janet Conner

You could pray, or meditate, dream, maybe even visit a shaman, or minister, Some even visit a hypnotherapist. With so many routes into inner consciousness, why write? Of all the ways to get in touch with God, as you understand God... to hear the small, still voice pointing you in the right direction... why take the time to write? Well here is a reason: it works. Not only does it work but it works amazingly well. If you want to engage in a vibrant conversation with the wisdom that dwells just a hair below your conscious awareness, write. Write every day, at approximately the same time, with passion, honesty, and the intention of speaking with and listening to the voice within. Our guest today is author, spiritual writer and speaker Janet Conner. She is here today to talk about her book “WRITING DOWN YOUR SOUL : HOW TO ACTIVATE AND LISTEN TO THE EXTRAORDINARY  VOICE WITHIN” which explores some of this research and instructs readers how to access the power and beauty of a person’s deepest selves.

Sarah Rees Howell

We are speaking with Maria Malin this morning about her book “When You Can’t Say Goodbye, Don’t”.

Judy Mandel

We can all only imagine how the death of a child would take its toll on parents and a family. It’s a hole that threatens to tear us apart. In an act of hope, the parents have a replacement child. The child is born to heal wounds and provide a “salve for the burns.”  The child unwittingly plays her role throughout childhood, riding the deep and hidden currents of the family tragedy. Years later, as an adult, she discovers the truth of her family’s life-changing event and the complex layers of her own relationships with her father, mother, and sister. Not until she finally has a child of her own does she come to grips with what she silently has known all along: Anything can happen. Planes fall from the sky. Our guest today is author Judy Mandel, whose book

As a child, our next guest, author Al Rivera whose book “the Barefoot Shoeshine Boy” shows us how he endured the daily verbal and physical abuse of the one person who should have showered him with love: his mother, and from foster parents who took her place in raising him until he was eighteen.

Louis Sadler

Could you survive—even prosper—after a childhood of horrific abuse in every imaginable form?  Lou Sadler, author of Orphaned Spirit…The Power to Heal, did just that.

The belief that maverick leaders and self-made entrepreneurs set the bar is no longer relevant in today's volatile business world. While self-leadership is critical to success, no one performs at their highest level without the support of equally skilled partners. Fighter pilots call these partners wingmen. Like the world of aerial combat, today's high stakes business world operates faster than the speed of sound. Teamwork and trust are critical to overcome the missiles of adversity, fear and change. Like a fighter pilot, you too need wingmen to help you to conquer these missiles and take positive action that will lead to success. Our next guest former combat decorated fighter pilot Lt. Col. Rob "Waldo" Waldman who has had 65 combat missions in Iraq & Serbia talks to us today about his book “Never Fly Solo” and shares his business critical concepts for success and delivers a very human message: we all have missiles in life to overcome and we can't do it alone.

M. Ellen "Melon" Dash

Do you wish you could swim, have fun and exercise in water wherever you go? Since 1912, adults and children have taken the same "20th Century" lessons.  Those lessons teach strokes, but many students fail to learn strokes because they're afraid in the water. They ask, "What if I drown? What if I sink? What if I panic? I want to feel safe before you teach me strokes." Strokes do not provide comfort or control in water. So we get to the heart of the problem. Once you overcome fear, you can learn to swim. You cannot learn what to do with your arms and legs if you're afraid you might not live. Our guest today, is the author of the book, “CONQUER YOUR FEAR OF WATER: AN INNOVATIVE SELF-DISCOVERY COURSE IN SWIMMING” and is founder of the organization Miracle Swimming Institute , M. Ellen (Melon) Dash.

MUSIC

Rusty Bladen

A veteran of the Indiana music scene, Bladen powers the crowd at his shows with an atmosphere of party songs, sing-alongs and a whole lot of audience participation. A college favorite, Rusty has cultivated an extremely loyal Midwestern fan base for his band and his solo performances.

Rusty's solo show is a high energy, freewheeling tour-de-force of Bladen originals, songs from the radio, and some excellent hippie country-rock tunes. The band show is an exhibition of what five guys holding onto the same roots rock and roll rope can pull an audience into. The band shows are fun, rockin' and loud. The solo shows are fun, rockin' and almost as loud.

Selling more than 15,000 copies of his original CD's, Ride That RIver, Everything for Everybody, Rockin Your Houseparty, Are You Happy Now? and Live Acoustic at the Hoosier Theater, Bladen ranks as one of the best selling independent artists in the state.

Bill Bean

Here is today’s question to ponder…Have you ever put any thought into the fact that every culture ever known, even cultures that have been isolated from the rest of the world has some belief system on spirits, ghost, angels, demons, good and evil? It kind of makes you wonder how every culture that has inhabited the earth has come up with the same concept of spiritual existence and has developed philosophies to explain the phenomena. If you were to look into the various studies that have been done in this area you would find that the verbiage varies from culture to culture but the various spiritual entities are so similar that someone could argue that they are actually the same. Throughout history there have been eyewitness accounts of unexplainable events and spirit or ghost sightings. Our next guest Bill Bean author of the book: “Dark Force: The Terrifying and tragic story of the bean family” has personally witnessed more than his fair share of paranormal activity, both good and evil. He can assure you that these spiritual entities are real, and he believes they are at war!

Bill Bean

Once again we are proud to have as our guest, author Bill Bean. During his last appearance on our show he spoke about his book,  “Dark Force: The Terrifying and tragic story of the bean family”. He has personally witnessed more than his fair share of paranormal activity, both good and evil. Today, Bill joins us to speak about his brand new book, just release titled: DELIVERED: NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE REST OF THE STORY TO BE TOLD.

Jeff Belanger

Today we will be talking about The Encyclopedia of Haunted Places. It is the first directory to be written by dozens of the world's leading paranormal investigators. Research notes, location background, first-hand accounts, and many anomalous photographs featuring ghostly manifestations comprise the hundreds of haunted listings in this directory. For years, paranormal investigative groups have been studying their local ghosts with scientific equipment as well as with more esoteric methods, such as psychics and séances. This directory is a repository of some of their most profound cases. From across the United States, Canada, and many spots around the globe, ghost investigators tell of their sometimes harrowing experiences, share their research, and give readers an overview of both well-known and obscure haunted locales. From private residences to inns and restaurants, battlefields to museums and libraries, graveyards to churches, Our guest today is author Jeff Belanger is a huge fan of the unexplained. He's been studying and writing about the supernatural for regional and national publications since 1997. His name is Rob Conover. Today we will walk with Rob as he leads us through many of the bizarre cases from his first 16 years as a paranormal investigator, a career that has garnered him international attention through TV and radio. Rob has the unique ability to see and speak with spirits of the dead that linger on earth. In each case, he must find out why they have remained on earth and convince them to cross over and be with God. In his book, “Haunted No More: Rob tells for the first time how he does it and why he, a private investigator of faltering faith, was chosen.

Caron B. Goode EdD, NCC

Do you remember the famous movie line from the boy in “The Sixth Sense”…”I see dead people.” Well let’s start right off with today’s question of the day: What would you do it your child came to you and told you they were seeing ghosts? How would you react? Many would start thinking that their child was possessed, was watching too much scary TV and movies, some think they are making it up for attention while others believe their children may have some special gift. Unfortunately there are some that think their child need psychological help or some kind of meds. Well the book we will discuss today was written to help parents through this confusing time. I will tell you right now, you have heard on our shows in the past that we all have this ability. Children especially are more attune to spirits and energies as we tend to grow out of believing what we are seeing and hearing. So if you have a child, or grandchild listen up to today’s show. Our guest today is an inspirational speaker, psychotherapist, trainer of parent coaches, and prolific author. A respected leader in the parent coaching and spiritual coaching industries, she is the author of a dozen books.

Rick Hayes

Our guest today has a lot of interests and wears many hats. She is a combination author, parapsychologist, psychic, and artist. She created the image of three flames emerging from the psi symbol as a metaphor for parapsychology. The image speaks the three-prong effort by parapsychologists to enlighten ourselves and others about the three fields that they study: ESP, mind-matter interaction, and the survival of bodily death. We are proud to have on our show today, Dr. Pamela Heath.

Indy Ghost Hunters

International Museum of Spiritual Investigations - Jonathan Williams

Today, we want to spend some time talking about Gettysburg, PA and a new attraction that any paranormal fan or believer should be sure to include in their itinerary. We are speaking about the International Museum of Spiritual Investigations. Joining us today is the executive director of the museum and paranormal investigator Jonathan Williams. And it is our pleasure to welcome Jonathan to our show!

John Kachuba

So here is today’s question? Why are we so intrigued about the paranormal and spirits? What draws us to seek more answers to this mystery? Why do people become paranormal investigators? To answer this question, our next guest spoke to some of the biggest names in the industry. He explored some of America’s greatest haunts. He has written two other books on Ghosthunting. He is a first-rate storyteller who provides chilling accounts of his adventures. The book we will be discussing today is called, “GHOSTHUNTERS: ON THE TRAIL OF MEDIUMS, DOWSERS, SPIRIT SEEKERS AND OTHER INVESTIGATORS OF AMERICA’S PARANORMAL WORLD”. It is our pleasure to welcome to Your Life Matters, author John Kachuba.

Kat Klockow

Our guest today originally hails from South Bend, Indiana and has been interested in ghost stories and the paranormal since she was still counting her age on her fingers. A few years ago Indiana University thought she had just hung around far too long and that it was time for her to go. Although she was at first put off by this turn of events, once they gave her two BA degrees (one in Anthropology and the other in Japanese Language and Culture Studies) she went on her merry little way. She now travels the countryside for spooks that people often say are real although science states otherwise. Today we are going to talk about her new book. “Haunted Hoosier Halls: Indiana University”. It is our pleasure to welcome to our show author Kat Klockow.

Steven A LaChance

Its screams still wake me from sleep. I see the faceless man standing in the basement butcher shower washing away the blood from his naked body. He turns, and his eyes sweep across me. The room begins to spin...

What kind of evil lives at the Union Screaming House?

In this true and terrifying firsthand account, our next guest author, speaker, radio host and producer Steven LaChance reveals how he and his three children were driven from their Union, Missouri, home by demonic attackers in his book “The Uninvited”. LaChance chronicles how the house's relentless supernatural predators infest those around them.

Mark Nesbitt

Over the years since the battle of Gettysburg, stories of scores of sightings, stranger than reality, have emerged from the quaint houses and gentle fields in and around the town of Gettysburg: Stories of sightings of these soldiers, moving again in battle lines, across the fields where they once marched. . . and died; tales of visions through a rip in time into the horrible scene of a Civil War hospital; whispers of a look at men long dead held eternally captive by duty. These apparitions -and more- come back to remind us, in one way or another that they are not to be forgotten for what they did here. . .In 1994, our guest today Mark Nesbitt started the first ghost walk in Gettysburg, The Ghosts of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking Tours. Armed with tales from his ghost books - and with a few that aren't in the books -guides dressed in period attire take visitors on evening tours through sections of town that were bloody battlefields 13 decades ago; through night-darkened streets to houses and buildings where it's not as quiet as it should be; to sites on the old Pennsylvania College campus where the slain once lay in rows, and the wounded suffered horribly, waiting to become corpses themselves; to cemeteries where the dead lie. . . sometimes not so peacefully. Gettysburg may very well be, acre for acre, the most haunted place in America.

Dr. Andrew Nichols

HAUNTED HOUSES HAVE BEEN REPORTED SINCE ANCIENT TIMES. BUT THE DEBATE HAS ALWAYS BEEN…ARE THEY REAL? Our guest today… Parapsychologist Dr. Andrew Nichols earned his world-wide reputation as a phantom sleuth routing banshees, breaking curses, exorcising ghosts, and exposing cranks and frauds. Dr. Andrew Nichols is Director of the American Institute of Parapsychology. He is currently professor of psychology and chairperson of the Mental Health Department at City College in Gainesville, Florida. In his book “Ghost Detective: Adventures of a Parapsychologist”, he recounts his most chilling and fascinating cases of poltergeists, psychokinesis, and apparitions. These bizarre accounts –which have never before been published- are presented with possible explanations for their occurrence, bringing into focus the latest discoveries in the scientific search for evidence of paranormal activity, and revealing dynamic links between haunting experiences and the human mind.

Jason Offutt

Ghosts, aliens, a time traveler, and a mind-reading dog could be fiction, but our next guest investigates true tales of these and other paranormal events that happened within 100 miles of his home. Our guest today is syndicated columnist, author, college journalism instructor, and a “fan of all things strange Jason Offutt who introduces ordinary folks who have encountered unexplained phenomena in everyday places and presents engaging accounts of their experiences. Getting a glimpse of this hidden world around us may prompt us to look--really look--in our own backyard.

Jim O'Rear

The book features over 60 photos and illustrations that bring more than 25 stories to life.  Jump into the creepy atmosphere that surrounds Tennessee, one of the most haunted locations in the United States. Our guest today has been involved in the entertainment industry for over twenty five years, beginning his career on tour as The Youngest Professional Magician with David Copperfield, Harry Blackstone Jr., and The Great Tomsoni and opening for acts like Cheap Trick and John Anderson.  He has Martial Arts skills, holding belts in American and Traditional Korean TaeKwonDo, and more. Jim O’Rear.

Troy Parkinson

Communicating with spirits was the last thing our guest today ever thought he'd do. He would describe himself as an ordinary guy from North Dakota. He first attended a spiritualist meeting when he was a college student in Boston. After receiving a message that night from his great-grandmother's spirit, he pursued mediumship training through the world-renowned First Spiritual Temple of Boston. This morning we will be talking to Troy Parkinson who is the author of the book, “Bridge to the Afterlife: A Medium’s Message of Hope and Healing”.  In his book he explores the ethics of spirit communication, discusses how spirits are depicted by Hollywood, and reveals how readers can develop their own mediumship abilities. His story and amazing messages from spirits, which include moving accounts of how children and animals communicate from beyond, will touch your heart, inspire your soul, and remind you that your loved ones are always with you.

Dr. Mark Pitstick

How would you live if you really knew you are a timeless being of energy, an indestructible soul, an immortal and eternal spiritual being? For thousands of years spiritual masters have long taught this good news that sets us free. Well that is the question our next guests asks you to ponder today. Imagine how wonderful life would be if you REALLY KNEW--without a doubt--that no one really dies. Think of how your life would change for the better if you were convinced that life is a totally safe and magnificent adventure amidst eternity. Consider how reassuring it would be if irrefutable evidence proved we each are indestructible spiritual beings having a temporary earthly experience. The book we will be talking about today is called "Soul Proof" and is written by Dr. Mark Pitstick who has over 30 years experience and training in hospitals, mental health centers, pastoral counseling settings, and a holistic private practice. It is our pleasure to welcome Dr. Mark Pitstick to our show.

Marco Santucci

Our guest today grew up in a typical small Midwestern town in Illinois. He knew at a very early age that there is more to the dark of the night, and the light of day, other than the obvious. Spirits have visited him always, but being young he was afraid of such things, and chose to ignore them.

He was told as a teenager by a palm reader who had stumbled in to town that he should be the one on her side of the table. After years of constant tugging from those from the other side, endless vivid "déjà vu" moments, and finally an outer body experience that could not be dismissed, he began to search for who, and what really does exist outside of, but right next to our earthly realm.

"Are You Really Psychic?"
6.5 Hours, 6-Part Series

They are considered experts in their field.  Often when they work together, "phenomena" occurs-which has been documented on video and sound recording equipment. There is something unusual about their work! Both were born with clairvoyant abilities. They are psychic mediums, educators and motivational speakers. They are authors of the book, “Between Two Worlds: the Realm of Physical Phenomena” which we will speak about today. Oh, and I forgot to mention they are gifted identical twins. In fact the Washington Post reported them to be the “best professional psychic mediums” of the Mid-Atlantic area. It is our honor to welcome to our show today, ALLYSON WALSH & ADELE NICHOLS.

If you leave elsewhere, listen close as this is most likely happening in your state and you need to write your senators and congress people now! We spoke to Indiana Senator Mike Delph (R) about Senate Bill 213 - about Illegal Immigrants and tougher laws in the State. This is the third try to get this passed in the Senate and it amazes all of us that this is NOT going through the past 2 times. Listen and YOU decide!

Sharon Hollowell

Our in-studio guest will be Sharon Hollowell from the Decatur County Community Foundation talking about their programs

Learn to see your precious child through God’s eyes . . .eyes that see a life full of potential, possibility and promise!

Listen to Mike's story as he takes us back to his previous lifestyle over 19-20 years ago and how he turned his life around to helping others through his ministry at the Westport Christian Church.

Rev. Mike Bartlett

In most churches, the pastor doesn't preach about it. The men won't talk about it. The women are ashamed to report it. Nobody wants to admit it goes on at all. Sometimes, just sometimes, woman to woman, one-on-one, a wife will confide in a female friend that that bruise wasn't really from hitting her eye on the cupboard door, or that she has to wear long sleeves to cover the marks where her husband grabbed her arms. Sitting in church Sunday after Sunday, one would never know that there were men that abuse their wives in the congregation, but there most certainly are. The church's silence on this matter only contributes to the problem. Women's Bible studies on Ephesians 5:22 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband" KJV are legion. The principle of wifely submission is drilled into young brides so that they might never forget that their husbands are in charge.

Some men will misuse, abuse and seriously injure the woman in their life and cowardly try to give it validity by quoting scripture as justification. If you think we are kidding you, you better look and listen closely today. Domestic Abuse has been on the rise for years. It is a subject people no longer wish to talk about. Compound that with the sex scandals in the Catholic Church which seem to continue to appear and women are becoming afraid to turn to their priest, minister, rabbi for help from the abuse because "some" churches are basically telling the women that it is the man's role according to the Scriptures.

Chris Tomlinson

Here is today’s question…”What do you crave?”. Some people crave ice cream late at night, others crave the taste of their mother’s home made cooking, while others crave something more lasting like love, a good spouse and a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. We all have cravings. Some will vanish quickly others will last forever. So where do cravings come from? What is the purpose of having cravings? More importantly, what do they reveal about us? Today author Chris Tomlinson will share his soul’s deepest cravings with us. He has written the book, “Crave: Wanting So Much More of God”. The book explores the realization that we all have these deep longings for significance, purpose, meaning and love. And theses all exist for a reason: to point us back to their source, which is God. It is our pleasure to welcome Chris Tomlinson to Your Life Matters.

James R. Welter

Here is today’s question…”Are you looking for a shortcut to really knowing Jesus?” We all know that the Bible is the best place to start. To really know Jesus, we must reflect on scripture and share our personal experiences. To encounter Jesus we must ask the questions: Who is my neighbor? What must I do? When did we see you hungry? Where were you when my loved one died? And we must struggle with the answers. Today we are going to talk about the great book, “Come Next Spring: Scripture Reflections of Promise and Hope.” Author James R. Welter’s personal and often poignant gospel reflections encourage readers of all denominations to understand the events of their daily lives in light of the teachings of Jesus. Jim combines wisdom and wit with a passion for Scripture. Dr. Stephanie Jean Clement

I am going to start off with a rhetorical question which might also seem a little silly…Who Are You? You think you know the whole answer. Yeah Yeah I know you can give me your name, date of birth, address, social security number, occupation, gender…But those are just outer identities that don't define the person you feel yourself to be, your needs and dreams, and who you can become if your potentials are fully realized. I bet you didn’t know this, but your birth chart has the answer! Your birth chart is a guide to self-knowledge describing the whole person you are and can be. Today we are going to be speaking with Dr. Stephanie Jean Clement. She is a Ph.D. and a professional astrologer for over 25 years. The book we will be discussing today is called: “MAPPING YOUR BIRTH CHART; UNDERSTANDING YOUR NEEDS & POTENTIAL” and it is our pleasure to welcome Stephanie Clement to our show.

Dr. Stephanie Jean Clement

In life we set up many barriers for ourselves. But Perhaps the greatest boundary we set for ourselves is the one between the conscious and less conscious parts of our own minds. We all need a way to gain deeper understanding of what goes on inside our minds when we are awake, asleep or just not paying attention. Meditation is one way to pay attention long enough to find out. The book we will discuss today is called: “Meditation for Beginners : Techniques for Awareness, Mindfulness and Relaxation”. It offers a step-by-step approach to meditation with exercises that introduce you to the rich possibilities of this age-old spiritual practice. It will help you to improve concentration, relax your body quickly and easily, work with your natural healing ability, and enhance performance in sports and other activities. And all that in just a few minutes a day.Our guest today is a Ph.D. and a professional astrologer for over 25 years. Her Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology has prepared her to work with clients in defining their creative potential and refining their creative process. You may remember we recently spoke to her about her book “Mapping Your Birth Chart” please welcome back to the show Dr. Stephanie Clement.

Colleen Deatsman

Here is today question, “Are you afraid of the dark?" A lot of people are afraid of the dark because they can't see and are afraid of what might be there. We have all heard of the word Shaman. Betcha you didn't know the word "shaman" means "one who sees in the dark." Shamans consciously choose to live in two different worlds at the same time. They have one foot here in the everyday world and one foot in the world of spirits. The fact is, we all live in these two different worlds, but are commonly not aware of the other, less visible one. This world does not exist in some other place, but is right beside us, just outside of our usual perceptions. Got your interest? Today's book we will be discussing is a definitive source for personal shamansim and not only provides the tools and techniques of the shaman, but presents the wisdon tradition, awareness paradigm, and shamanic way of life. Our guest today is a licensed professional counselor, licensed social worker, Reiki master, certified clinical hupnotherapist, certified alternative healing consultant, and shamanic practitioner. Lea M.

Meg Blackburn Losey, Ph.D.

Going to start off with today’s question right from the author, “What do the so called sacred sites all over the world have to do with consciousness? Is it possible that the ancients left us keys to who we really are and what we are capable of? What does sacred geometry really have to do with these sites, our consciousness and even the symbology of world religions? How does all of this tie together to literally solve the meaning of the Mayan Calendar? Well the book we are going to discuss today will answer those questions for us. This is a newly released book, in fact it comes out tomorrow! The book was written by Meg Blackburn Losey, Ph.D. Dr. Meg is a Keynote speaker and has recently served as a consultant to Good Morning America and 20/20 News. She is a Master Healer, speaker, author and teacher. She is a dually Ordained Minister in both Spiritual Science and Metaphysics. This book is filled with exercises and meditations that will allow you to balance out the energy in each of your chakras. This will allow you to make better decisions and get more pleasure out of. They can help you improve your communication skills, and overcome your fears. See, you may think that difficult situations and emotions you experience are caused by other people or random events. This book will convince you that inner imbalance is not caused by situations in the outer world—instead, your imbalances create the situations that interfere with your sense of well-being and peace. This book will help you find your spiritual path in life and bring back the true you which may have been missing. Our guest today is author David Pond who will explain how to do all of this. And it is our pleasure to welcome David Pond to Your Life Matters Show.

Allison Stilman

So let’s start with today’s question…Do you know what essentials oils are? No, we are not talking about the BP oil spill. What if I asked you if you know what Boswellia sacra or sometimes called carterii is? Betcha you would know it if I called it by its other name Frankincense – one of the gifts brought to Jesus by the Three Wise Men. How about if I asked you about anointing with essential oils? Now that I have your attention we will be talking about the book “The Sacred Art of Anointing”.  The anointing with these oils can enhance inner wisdom and guidance, induce deeper education and awaken higher states of consciousness. When we say football in the U.S. we think of Payton Manning, jerseys, helmets, padding, tackling and touchdowns. In the rest of the world, if you say football, it is associated with the word GOOOOOOOAAAALLLL. In the U.S. soccer has slowly put a dent in America’s favorite past time baseball. We saw that with the recent World Cup and the excitement it brought here in our own country. More and more kids today are playing soccer. In fact there are more than 3 million youth soccer players in this country. So here is today’s question: Who are the soccer moms that drive the kids from game to game? How do they prepare for their child’s soccer life? The book we will discuss today builds on the team-centered focus of soccer and also provides a wealth of useful information on improving kids' healthy life skills, such as nutrition, fitness, teamwork, relationships, discipline, sportsmanship, safety, and even fundraising. Parents will feel ready to "get in the game" when they're encouraged and empowered to share in their children's excitement by training and playing in their own leagues, as well as coaching and volunteering for their kids. The name of the book is “SOCCER FOR MOMS: Game & Parenting Essentials for Healthy Kids” and it is our pleasure to welcome to Your Life Matters author and real-life soccer mom Kerrie Paige.

What if you were a basketball coach and could lead your team to the perfect season? What if you were to win the NCAA finals? What if you were a coach for a prestigious college basketball team? What if you were a woman coach? How hard would it be to become a successful, respected coach? Would you have to work harder than the men coaches? These ladies operate in the ultimate ‘win or you’re fired’ industry. They manage staffs and players under constant media and public scrutiny, with the burden of healthy salaries. Who are they? What are their secrets to successful leadership? Well our guest today was intrigued by this and asked the same questions. Today we will be talking about the book, “Final Four Leadership” and our guest is the author and leadership keynote speaker David F. Salter.
